hey does anyone ride a board way to big for them on purpose? I'm 5'5 and 155lbs. I ride a Witness 136 now and it fits perfect, but out of curiosity I really wanna try riding a 140 or 142 or something. Any thoughts on this? I feel like it would have a little more snowboard feel plus maybe some extra pop? I wanna try it i bet it would be fun! also grabs look soo much more ill on a big board! crails for days!

yes absolutely. do this. im 5'9 170 and ride a 143, and its the best decision i ever made. everything is bigger and slower and the landings arent bad either. Spinning was NOT harder just needed more patience. learned my best spins on the biggest board i ever rode. more floaty, more fun. just warning you if you do this, you wont look at your 136 the same again.

if you try a flex board you can easily ride up a size and not sacrifice weight. On the other hand I have also ridden down a size on several flexboards and had a lot of fun too! Bigger boards are faster, more pop and land softer in most cases IMO. Sometimes I wish I could go with an even bigger board when I am riding big wakes and taking things to the flats.

^ second what kevin said

many of the flex boards tend to be lighter and thinner so the increased size is not perceived to be as heavy or bulky etc.

ive ridden only 2 boards in the traditional foam core category that were too large and did not like it as much... but then again i also had never tried the smaller (more suggested size) of the same boards... so maybe it was just the board style i did not like?...

ohh and i ride a 142 slingshot recoil and am 6 ft tall 165 lbs. the only reason i chose it is because my second time demoing i got stuck with the larger and liked it more. so if you can demo first. Do.

More surface, more rocker, more pop.

6'1, 185lbs and I've ridden a 136, 139, 140 and a 143 lol (The 39 is a Roam, so i don't know if that counts) there is definitely a major difference between them for sure.

My buddy last week went from a 137 to a 142 and was going way bigger than he ever has before...I am 6 foot 4" and ride a 142 but I would really like to ride a 146 ronix one. Actually a 146 would be sick in a dhv2 because it is so light I bet I would be going HUGE!

I'm 6'2 200lbs... last season I was riding the One 142... I also thought that a bigger board would be better so I tried the 146... I didn't like it at all and I tried it a few times. It felt to heavy, was harder to spin and I could feel it rotating differently on inverts like to much swing weight or g forces... on the other hand I know some guys that are 6'4 or taller who ride 138's and hate riding bigger boards but I think they are insane.

Dude Yeah I love it. I am 6'1 136 lbs and I ride a Militant 140. I do not know a whole lot, but when I ride my friends 136 the landings on it are not near as soft as the 140. The bigger board seems to have alot more pop.

So what's the drawback to riding a larger board? I'm 5'11", 180 and I ride a Fish 133. With 4 knee surgeries under my belt, I can get onboard with the softer landings, but I want to know what I'll be sacrificing.

Clay- 6'1" and 136 lbs. Your a skinny dude

I'm 6'1" and 175. Riding the marek 146. Last year I rode the monarch 56 and the step up in size has been great. I don't notice any more swing weight or anything. I always suggest to people that they ride the biggest board possible

No real drawbacks - board length is mostly preference.

Just think of a Camaro versus a Lotus... the muscler is fast, strong, and smooth, while the Lotus is quick, nimble, and more fun to toy around in.

6'1", 150 lbs, I ride a 139 Ibex which is rated for 160 lbs and up, and I love it. I really noticed it on the first ride, sits a lot higher in the water, and I get bigger pop for sure.

I would be curious to find out what the weight difference is on a 135 compared to a 142. I can't imagine it would be that much. I have always liked big boards but that is just personal preference.

I ride an Ibex 144 @180lbs and and have ridden my buddies 137 and 139 all 3stage and similar angles. Definitely will not go back. My big board pops bigger, smoother, and lands like butter compare to theirs.

There were a few years when you could hardly find a 146-147cm, now there are quite a few models to choose from. Many companies I can't even consider since their largest size is 142-143. With the bigger wakes, it's a no brainer to save your knees.

I know I have been trying so hard to gain weight. Not working out so well for me.
My parents bought the board for me not really knowing, but I love it. I know it is to big but I have had no problems at all with it. Pop is great and the landings are super soft.

I just went to other direction. Went from a 141 Response to a 137 Reflex and love it. Feels like I have more pop and its quicker.

The Murray 145 is the biggest board in Hyperlite's line in terms of surface area. It might be interesting to try that out.

Myself I won't ride a board under 142 cm on the wake and truthfully next year I will probably be riding a 144. The only time I will ride smaller is on rails only. Right now I am riding the Company Severance 142, but all last summer rode the 143 Company Recruit. I am 5'10" 155lbs. You cant get better then a big board. They build more speed into the wake, get more pop and land softer. Win win win.

A 144 next year Jaret? Company making some bigger boards in 2010?

How does the 142 Severance compare to the 139 Recruit, is it a big difference in size?

I'm 5'5 155lbs and I stepped up to the witness 140 from a Omega 136 and a PS3 138. I'm glad I did. You won't regret it. I'm not going to repeat everything here so just go bigger. I never thought I would say that but I do now.
