I am considering buying an 05 X Star that has a 6.0 385hp motor. The price is right where NADA has it in the middle.
Is this the same hull that the 09's have and is the 6.0 a dependable motor?
Thanks in advance.

Might be the crusader or the LQ9. If it is the SS package it has the crusader. If not, might be the LQ9- Cadillac Northstar. As far as I know MC doesn't put this engine in their boats anymore. I believe it is because the engines were blowing and GM was not validating the warranty. Not to mention they were a pretty expensive upgrade for an extra 35 hp. But I am not sure about the SS package. thought they started it in 05 or 06, not quite sure.

The 05 X-Star was available with three engines: MCX, 6.0L, and 8.1L. See p29 of the 05 User's Manual http://mastercraft.com/files/manuals/2005_MasterCraft_Owners_Manual.pdf

The 05 hull is the same as the 09's.

LQ9 is the 6.0L that they used through 06. Then they went to the LY6. The LQ9 is a liquid cooled 385hp motor and the LY6 is a 400hp motor. I am not sure if it is true but I have heard that the LQ9 is a crazy expensive motor to replace if something happens to it. It has an aluminum block or heads or something like that. It has closed cooling to the bock which is nice but I don't think you can add a heater to it. I may be wrong on some of this info though. It is also an Indmar motor.

Hey,
We have the 05 Xstar with the 385hp. Be prepared to change your flying-wheel every 200-300 hours, and be prepared Mastercraft not paying for it, even though it is a production mistake!!! We know 3 people with an 05Xstar and the 385hp engine who have the same trouble than we do, and MC isn't giving a damn!

I ride weekly on an 05 xstar with the MCX, 900+ hours. Had one major issue with the transmission blowing up. It was a known problem and fixed under warranty. Other than that the boat won't die.

Get the 6.0. That LQ9 didn't seem any better than the mcx.

I would also check to make sure it has the new rudder. Some of the 05's were retrofitted with it but the new rudder wasn't standard until 06.
