It just hit me, prompted by this thread, that a large part of the problem is various sides focusing on being "right" rather than understanding. Taking sides, condemning the other creates a tremendous amount of noise and magnifies the incident into greater meaning for various interest groups. This would include your OP, Grant. Is there hypocrisy in much of the black community's response to Ferguson? You bet. But does righteousness in response back help the situation? Not likely. When someone sees an issue different than you, does their righteousness help you understand it more or see it differently? No, instead most likely it makes you defensive and continues the disagreement. Isn't how this has all gone?
So how is a debate on WW about who's right going to help anyone?
