I going to order my equipment tomorrow so i'm trying to decide what to do, current plan is to take off my 4 pro60s and add 4 pro 80s and 1 485, I've been thinking of leaving the 4 pro60s and adding 2 pro485s... any opinions?

I am currently running the 60s off of a jl hd750/1, i would run the 80s off of the same amp and add a 750/1 for the 485, i can add another 750/1 for the other 485 if need be so power is not a problem

anyone have any pics of 2 485s on the cross bar?

Ryan,

You can check out some set ups on our site in the Malibu gallery section. There are some crazy Malibu systems. Most are running multiple 80 set up's and some have dual 485 flipped on top. But this will give you an idea. Most do not go with the dual 485 on the bottom becuase of head room on that tower since it is shorter than others.

Another option would be a pair of 80DXT in the bottom location. This is the 80 that is designed for the Illusion tower to be able to mount two pairs in the factory locations. The bottom one is a 80DXT that drops it a bit and the top mount is the 80X in the factory spot. You can then add a single 485 on the cross bar. Or another pair of 80's on the crossbar pushed close in so you still have the headroom

There is a pic of a boat in the gallery that Ryan at Chucktronics did with 3 pairs of 80's. One being 80DXT, one being 80X and the third another 80X mounted to the tower where he drilled and added nutserts into the tower. You can do that or just go on the crossbar and get the look and sound.

yeah i was thinking it would look weird going with just the one 485 hanging in the middle all alone, i didn't see any pics of 2 485s on the bottom in your gallery, i would prefer not to have any speakers on top

I have seen dual 485 and single 485 on the bottom a ton on the water but no one has sent us pics. Hydrotunes just finished one the other day that had 4 60's and a single 485. Let me see if they have pics

that would be awesome, also how do you think the 485s will handle 750 watts?

Ryan,
We've run a JL HD750/1 on a single Pro485 and I can tell you that is a bit much power if you are not careful. Its perfect for a pair though.
If you can arrange a system with all 8-inch products it will have greater output plus it will tune and balance better. I understand that the boat doesn't always cooperate.

Better plan on replacing the pins & bushings in that Illusion pretty regularly with that kind of weight on it.

Well we made 4 60s and 2 485s Fit, no way to get 4 80s on there though

to get some perspective, take a look at the Centurion installs at Wetsounds.com. There is one on the new Gladiator tower and one on the old Evolution tower that should pretty good feel (the Evolution tower especially since it is only a 6ft of head room. I believe it is actually the last boat). I believe they are both running 4 Pro 60s with 1 485.
