Are your batteries fully charged?

I've had similar symptoms twice (not counting drained batteries). The first was a bad slave solenoid, not the solenoid down on the starter but the small one up top near the circuit breaker. Mine's a Mercruiser and not an Indmar but I believe Indmar engines have them too. Open the engine and trace the source of the "click" when you try and start it, if its up top it's probably the slave solenoid, if it's down near the starter it would be the starter solenoid. The other time the motor was hydrolocked, the starter would engage but couldn't compress the water that had gotten in the cylinders. Pull your spark plugs out and see if any water comes out of the cylinders.

Another potential problem is you just have a bad starter. The starter will make a clicking sound when once they start drawing to many amps frin being worn out.

Pull the starter & have it tested at any auto parts store.

I just had the same problem. I tightened connections, check batteries, etc....

It was the starter. Obviously check other things but my guess is the starter. It was $234 for a new one....ouch! However, I've not had any problems since.

Bench testing starters is OK but dont take the results to the bank. They cant duplicate the load the engine/flywheel puts on it when they bench test it. Ive had many that bench tested fine but didnt work in the vehicle. FWIW.

Been here before: my money is on the battery or the connections... check both and try again
