I about spit out my beer when my bride said she wanted to update our '04 Centurion Elite / Lightning. She is not the big boater but after riding on some others, she wants a fresher ride.

I have a budget of about $30-40K and I used to keep up with all the boats/features but see I have fallen behind the times. I'm the kind of guy that likes BUs when I'm behind a BU, Nautis when I'm behind a Nauti, a Centurion when I'm behind those - no strong brand preference but if money were not object, I would be in a Nauti.

What I would like to find is a boat that creates a good surf wave without too much effort. One thing that I do not like about our Centurion is how touchy the wake is. Bride wants a little more room to entertain. She really wants a toon but knows thats not going to happen. Probably most important is reliability. I keep it on a lift at a small marina without any mechanical service that is about 60+ miles from most shops so a trip to the shop pretty much chews up the better part of two full days just getting it there and back. Because of that, I usually turn my own wrenches.

Been doing some internet shopping after going to boat show and wanted to toss out some options to hear the good bad and ugly. I have never ridden behind any of these models except the Axis. The ones below all have asking prices between $35-$45K most expensive on top.

13 Moomba Mojo less than 100 hours.

10 Bu VLX about 300 hours

11 Axis A22 about 300 hours

14 Centurion Avalanche 700 hours. Boat club is selling this and a few other boats from their fleet.

10 MB F21 about 700 hours.

What’s more important: Wake or wave?

Wave. We still board but do not need a waist high wake.

The F21 throws an amazing wave. Not sure about the Avalanche's wave, but the Enzo is sick sick sick. The Bu surfs well enough & will have better resale out of all of those.

The avalanche is a awesome surf boat. Be warned though if you are not comfortable operating a heavily listed boat it's not for you. If you are ok with it the wake it puts out is in the league of newer surf boats. If you shop around you should be able to find one with lower hours in your price range. Here is a pic of my friends avalanche wake. It's a blast to ride and I have a much newer boat.

Nice wave and no problem with listing. I'm in a slightly smaller Cent now so have a good feel for the surf drill on these rides if the newer Avy is similar.

How many hours are too many for a boat around $35-40K ?

I would also look into some of the 2010-2011 MBs. Here is a 2010 MB F21 Tomcat for 35k.

How did you like that center engine hatch seadek? Thinking about doing that to my 210...

Looked at a Moomba Mojo and kind of leaning towards that. Like the layout and size, not crazy about the tower, but like that you can pick one up that is just 3-4 years old for around $40K. The MB is a thought.
