I sold my boat awhile ago and moved down south to a new house. I finally have space to have a boat inside year round but I think my garage door is a little narrow.

How wide is the standard inboard boat trailer? I've looked around online briefly but couldn't find any info.

In most states, the max trailer width with out a permit is 8.5'. It's very common to find trailer boats with an 102" beam. Add guide posts and you might very well be over the 8.5. So I would want to 9' at least and have a trailer with guide posts that are easily removable.

I have 9' wide door and I have about one inch on either side when I back the boat in. And I have to take the guides off. Remember nine feet is really about 8.75 feet when the door is finished out. If I were to do it again I would do a ten foot wide door. Oh and I have a Sanger v215 so not a huge boat. Many are wider.

In a day or two, I'm going to measure my boat locker's supposed 10 foot wide garage door. if my uprights are centered, the clearance is only about 2 inches on each side.

Several years ago, I used to answer the question, 'how's wakeboarding going?' with, "Not too good. But you should see my trailer reversing skills!"
