Its a toasty 104* here in the Folsom,CA area (and smokier than hell itself) and nobody wants to go ride. I know Arizona and other desert places get much hotter than here, so how hot is too hot to ride?

Thats what I'm saying! Nobody wants to ride though. Maybe the smoke is keeping people away.

The way I look at it, is with this heat and smoke, there is nobody on the lake!

just got back from a nice 106 degree ride. The water was an amazing 85 degrees but still refreshing.

never too hot to ride, but sitting in my non-AC house is another story. 89 degree in my home when I got home last night.

I few years ago at Havasu I took a set in late August where the water was 89 degrees and the air was 122 at about 2pm. You start stringing tricks together and you end up dry!! Pretty fun place mid-week.

Try sucking wind at 115 degrees with 89 degree water temp. Feels like your sucking wind out of a blow dryer. We ride at 7 in the morning when it's only 95!

Too Hot to Ride??? Wha??!! theres only; 1. too cold to ride, 2. don't have the opportunity, or 3. too dead to ride.

When the water temp gets >95, we ride less but can't say it kept us off just not as long. Those nasty amoebas that crave human brain tissue like that hot water.

When it gets 110-115 or so it starts to get pretty bad and you get tired fast. 104 is actually pretty nice!
Old     (bbr)      Join Date: Apr 2002       07-09-2008, 8:19 PM Reply
It was 111 today, and we didn't ride cause we were tired as hell.

I rode Monday and Tuesday at B/V, and man it was hot!! Fortunately the water was still relatively cool, considering.....

I'll be headin' out again tomorrow, but the weatherman don't sound like he's gonna be much help....

I'm sure it'll be -much- cooler for next weeks appointments.

I'm used to riding cold, refreshing water the entire season in nortern MI. What kind of water temps will I be looking at in Orlando for camp at the end of this month??
Old     (acurtis_ttu)      Join Date: May 2004       07-10-2008, 6:03 AM Reply
It's not so much the air temp but when combined water temps are approaching the 95-100 degree mark ( a major downside to riding in shallow water) , it can be very uncomfortable sitting in it watiing to be pulled back up.

For two months of the year Seattle is the ultimate place to live. This is one of them.

Top that off with 72 degree water... heaven.

Never too hot to ride here. Come to Texas in August when its 105+ with 100% humidity. The water can get warm though depending on where you ride.

I'm sure the smoke y'all have right now makes it much less enjoyable though.

fair weather boarders....lame...I don't care if the water is 49 or 100....I'm riding!

It's always too hot to ride. You should stay home in the AC! With global warming it is only getting worse, so quit while you're still ahead.

LOL @ Fletch - I miss winter butter!

Too hot to ride? Never, the lake is the only place to be during the summer in AZ, it is actually cooler than anything else. The pool right now is at 95 degrees and is like a jacuzzi. At some point the lake water gets so warm, you sweat while in the water. Been there done that, but what else is there to do in AZ during the summer? Nothing.

I just rode the last 2 days on Folsom. Sure I probably inhaled the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes each day, but there's hardly anybody else out there.

when the air is 100 or high 90 degree water is not that bad, but when the water gets over 96, like bath water, forget it!
