Keeping in the spirit of the all the new boats getting built on here this year, I thought it'd be cool to see a Supra make it's way down the line.

Being kind of a manufacturing geek, I always like seeing the build process! So, I was pretty stoked when I got these pictures today. Thanks to the guys and gals at Skier's Choice and the crew at Lauderdale Lakes Marina and Lauderdale Lakes Chicago www.lauderdalelakesmarina.com

I believe the build started Monday 3/5 and it will be all tested and finished by the end of the week!

Boat: Supra Sunsport 21V
Color: Black, White, Reuben
Interior: Steel Gray, Platinum Inserts, Rueben piping
Decal: Supra Chrome
Other Options: Polk Sub/Amp, 4 Polk Tower Speakers, Underwater Lights, Heater, Bimini, S Bend Tower and all the standard goodies

Wow! Beautiful boat. 5 days start to finish is incredible. What was the lead time before it was actually put into production?

Very interesting pics. It's crazy how almost all the interior is installed before the top deck is put on.

Can someone shed more light on the second pic? It looks like they're laying down chopper glass without masks on. Is there a non-toxic version? Are Supras made with chopper glass or is this just an interior filler layer?

I was wondering the same thing. Boat looks great Neil! Killer colors. It's cool to see how the different companies do things. Thanks for posting!

Glad you guys find them interesting. Lean manufacturing is obviously the real deal down there.

Houstonshark- I actually spec'd her out in early February, put a deal together later that month and my dealer had an early March production slot for me.

Tuneman- I think I know the answer, but maybe someone more connected with mfg process could respond/confirm.

Awesome! I am anxious to see mine at the end of the month. Will try and post pics as well. Looks like they are staying busy down there in Tennessee. Boat looks great. Look forward to the final pic and the S Bend tower...

Whats the build date on yours diggs? Mine's 3/27. There's a lot of new 21v's this year!

@NAW Did you have Launchs in the past? If so, what made you decide on the sunsport this time?

When i toured the plant, they were using the chopper gun when i walked by. there was nothing floating in the air. I asked about them using the chopper gun. I was told the reason they use it is this new computer that controls the amount coming out. And usually the choppers guns ive seen in the past were shooting smaller pieces. This was heavy fiber coming out that i saw. And the chopper fiberglass was actually just the 2 coats of material. They use a 6 coat system to do their hulls if i remember correctly.

As far as the lean manufacturing... they have got that dialed in. Every worker has the power to shut down the process if they ever deem it neccessary for any reason. But they pay the workers for coming up with ideas to save time and money in the process. Ive been in a lot of plants, But the Skiers Choice plant was by far the most impressive that ive ever been to. Not to mention that either the CEO, VP if sales, or owner of the company must inspect every boat that leaves the factory and sign off on it. Thats quality control at its best...

I have heard awesome things about their factory. Hopefully some day I can get there to get a tour. Just so far away.

We got ours slotted on Feb 10th. I'm assuming the build date isn't on a first come first serve basis. I think it has something to do with the dealers getting a couple boats at a time.

Yeah. Dealers have slots is the way I understand it too. I would imagine so the manufacturer does not have to hold boats and they can have all their build dates about the same time and they can all get shipped off together...

We got hosed! 2 Months! Oh well it will be worth the wait though.

Look at the bright side..... NAW is going to have to start paying for his boat a month earlier than we will!

Amen anything that would allow me to clean the carpet or wash out the boat.

That boat is sharp. Love it.

You can get a carpet saver or snap out carpet over your regular carpet. I have never seen it before, but I know it is an option.

The Mojo has snap out in Moomba so I would guess Supra will have it sooner or later

I've had a few boats with the playpen (Launch) before and really liked them! Obviously, my favorite part was having 1150lbs hidden in the basement, for sure.

My lake is tiny and we have a 21' limit. So, out of respect for some of the smaller boats, I try just to run factory ballast. The factory ballast will be fine for my home lake, but I'll probably be thinking of ways to stash another 300-500 lbs in the belly and bow to at least get it to the factory Launch system weight. When I'm out on bigger water, have high level riders out, or generally feel like getting reckless, I'll fill some external bags and slump it.

I've spent a lot of time with the post 2009 21V hull and owned the '05-'08 hulls and IMO, the newer hull needs less weight than the old one to produce a quality wake.

In any case, I got word that the boat came back from lake test yesterday afternoon, received the graphics treatment and is getting final cleaned before shrink-wrap and ready for the trek up to Chicaog! Once back here (a week or so), we'll do all the prep work (Tower speakers, batteries, swim platform, etc) and I'll either start the break in, or put it in storage for a few weeks, weather dependent. Looking forward to warmer weather!

In the early 2000's, there was a model or two that offered snap out carpet (going off memory here) and If I recall, not many were ordered that way.

In all honesty, I would go with snap out if it were an option. But, from a manufacturing standpoint, I can see why it would be a big deal. Here's my guess (again, just a guess):

You can see from the construction pictures, the floor is not integral with the top deck or the hull. It is bonded to the stringer system. This is an important aspect because the deck and hull are the only things that are gelcoat. If they were to do a snap out carpet, the floor would need to be gelcoat as well to look right and integral to either the deck or hull. Obviously, this would be a big change in tooling and mold as well as design.

Since the MOJO was a completely new design, they could take some liberty with construction, mold and tooling. I think we'll see more of this style in the future across both lines as new models are introduced. Again, just my own personal guess/opinion.

In the meantime, the carpet saver option is a good alternative.

PS: Glad to see you found your password, FRG!

and I love the carpeted bases and floors. Like mentioned above, you can get the carpet saver which makes it easy to remove, clean and dry out, plus it adds more cushion to the floor.... love it.

That boat is looking nice! I have snap-out carpet over the standard carpet in my 2009 22ssv and like it. Still do like having carpet up the sides of the seats since it can be cold here.

Yeah I definitely like the carpet sides. Just a warmer softer feel. I can definitely see people liking snap out carpet though.
That S Bend tower is starting to look very nice on the 21V....

Starting to lean toward carpet. Yes the snap out is easy to take out and clean, but then you have to clean the fiberglass underneath, especially in the corners. Like double the work

I finally had a chance to get up to the dealer and take delivery. Definetly stoked on how it turned out.

Here's a few pictures the dealer took with my '08 sitting next to it. Thought it looked pretty cool!
