what would you pay for this boat?:

http://www.n3boatworks.com/pre_owned_detail.asp?sid=07570612X9K29K2008J8I52I5 2JPMQ3683R0&veh=995647

The boat is being sold on consignment, and the owner wants 22k. It seems to be in great shape, with all records, except for the cracking on the rear seat.

Should I be worried about the fact that it has 600+ hours on it?

600hrs is just getting broke in. Don't worry at all unless it was salt or brackish.

cool thanks. so what about the price, in general then? what do you think a good offer would be?

also, would this particular boat be a wise choice in terms of resale value down the road?

I didn't look at the ad but just give it a couple months I have seen fewer boats on the lake then in the last ten year's. I would bet you could get a killer deal. Its the first thing to go just check craig's list everyone wants to deal already Joe

Most people who own boats are not like us on this site we will be out wake boarding if gas is 10.00 a gallon. they buy their boat winterize it, store it, summerize it 2500.00 later they use it a couple times a season. and then they get bored and gas does affect these people. I seen four hundred boats go out storage and never seen them on the lake. Joe

22k is about right.

we got a 95 supersport with 250 hrs (new engine = long story)---100% stock, no tower or anything and paid 18k.

i would say he is about on for what he has... you could prob. work it a little lower

seriously an awesome boat though... you won't be sorry

just to reiterate, would this particular boat be a wise choice in terms of resale value down the road?

I think the boat is too expensive. A good friend of mine just bought an 02 or 03 for 31k...it was a Supersport with tower, ballast, and PP. I am sure the boat he bought only had 90ish hours too.
Old     (naptownwake)      Join Date: Jul 2007       09-29-2008, 7:34 PM Reply
if 22 is too much, then what would be a good price on it?

19-20K

def. wait boats aren't selling in a hurray......I agree with ewing....maybe even less....its just not a great market out there.....for anything!

I second the 19-20.

20 is too much for a 13 year old boat.Thats pretty close to what the boat sold for new.

I ran the boat on Nadaguide.com & could only get it to book out from $14k - $16k.
600 hours is no big deal. But the torn up upholstery would turn me off in a big way.

thanks for doing that bill. 16k sounds way way low though, does it not?
Old     (formfunction)      Join Date: Jun 2008       09-29-2008, 8:56 PM Reply
16k sounds too high, maybe in the spring a few years ago that boat would have brought a lick but things have changed.

I'd have to watch the boat sales in your area to say if $16k is high or not. Older v-drives tend to command a bit of a high price. And while I agree the economy is in terrible shape, my area has not really felt it outside of house sales. Boat sales, especially used boats, are doing pretty good here. So I would expect to see $16k or more for that kind of boat...... but again, the interior is a big turn off.

Damn, now 16k? is too high???

Some guy in Utah was selling the same boat with the FCT tower, PP, and ballast system for 19k. Im sorry, but the monster tower ruins that boat. In this economy 15k is probably too high, plus its winter.

Alright, I'd say 18-19k. realistically the dealer probably wants to see at least 19-20.5k out of it. The interior is a big turn off for me because you can easily spend a couple thousand on replacement skins. But if you're looking for a boat that is ready to go wakeboarding, this looks like it is pretty well loaded and ready to go. Looks like all it needs is Perfect Pass.

Pros: Ballast systems looks like it's going to produce a huge, well-formed wake. GT-40 is one of the most reliable engines ever in the Nautique line up. Easily see 1500 hours or more before touching the engine. All of the accessories are purchased for you(with the exception of Perfect Pass) making the boat, essentially, ready to go wakeboarding. You have to realize some of the cost you're paying is the accessories, the other side of the cost is the condition.

Cons: The interior, slightly higher hours though nothing to be worried about, any other problems you feel would lower the price of the boat.

Thanks guys, this all helps greatly

$22k seems a bit steep for a 12 year old boat. I'm probably in the minority on this site in this, but if I was looking at spending that, I'd seriously consider a newer non-nautique/mastercraft. I'd look at what else you can get for 22k. Look at the beam of the boat (older boats tend to have narrower beams). Look at the options you get. Look at the condition of the interior. That being said, there is something to be said for having a Nautique.

Great boat, a buddy had the same ride. Price is way high. I wouldn't go over $17.5

Buddy of mine just bought a '98 Super Sport, GT40, tandem trailer, loaded, but without tower & 300 hours in prime condition for $15K in Cali. $22K is way to high for a '96, dealer is on crack! I'd say more like 13-15K for that boat depending on local economy and going used rates.

alright, I guess I'm a little high on the price. Maybe 15k max would be a better estimate for price. Looking at the interior, you could definitely find a boat with better looking skins. This one clearly was not taken care of.

I do not think 12 y.o. vinyl pulling away from the seams is a sign of abuse. More of a sign of age than anything. I have been on well taken care of boats with seams starting to go after 5 years, including some of the big 3 brands. I would check on the price of skins though before I did any dealing as that can add up. Also see if you can get PP added.

As far as value, try to find v-drives under $20K, much less Nauti v-drives. There are some but not many, so it is probably worth near $20K in a good market. Since we are not in a good market or at the peak selling season, a fair price would probably be $16-$18K, a steal if you can get it for under $16K which would be a looonnnggg shot.

honestly for that boat...if you don't pay ~20k someone else will... that boat will sell.
Old     (jackeh)      Join Date: May 2008       09-30-2008, 2:05 PM Reply
to replace all the cracked vinyl is only like 500-600 bucks any way.

but i also think that 19-20k sounds right.

man, opinions seem to be all over the place on this one. I'm guessing perhaps some of you that say 15-18k live in a location where boats like these are a bit more widely availiable???

I just had all my removeable v-drive wrap around seats re-done for $500, last week. Take into account mine are simple and all white. So it's not that bad, and I think that boat looks great! I would say low ball the dealer and see if he moves. It's not really boat buying season and he is prob excited to sell anything. Also, you have lots of time before next spring so shop around. I would say that the boat will prob sell for around their asking price. It would in my area.

If the middle and front seats on the boat are not cracking then I wouldn't think that the rear seats cracking necessarily means the boat wasn't taken care of. It is probably from people stepping on the seats to get to the swimstep. With the hours and age I would think that is fairly common. I also don't think 600hrs is very worrisome (50hrs a year). The price does seem high - offer lower and be willing to walk away.

I'm not sure if this was answered, but would this particular boat be a good purchase in terms of resale value down the road?

assuming I put around 200-300 hrs on it, what might I expect to get for it in a few years?
Old     (sidekicknicholas)      Join Date: Mar 2007       10-02-2008, 2:46 PM Reply
if you keep it in good shape (in and out) -- add some real tower speakers you could near what you paid.

our 95 was bought for 18k - we have it up to 550hrs from 250 that we bought it with (added tower, ballast, stereo) and I was offerend 23k this summer for it.... so we would have made money... it won't go down too much as long as it is kept nice.

Thanks, Nick. that's what I was hoping to hear.

Nick you should have taken the 23K that is goood money for your boat.

Jack no one can say for certain what the values of boats are going to be down the road. I don't think you are going to lose money, but don't buy that boat with intentions of making money.
Old     (naptownwake)      Join Date: Jul 2007       10-02-2008, 9:40 PM Reply
no, I'm definitely not looking to make money off of the boat, I just want to make certain that, what ever boat I end up in, I take a minimal hit in depreciation expense.
