Beginning of the season... lots of new boat owners, people trying to have careless fun ends tragically. It's very important to let people know what they can do to be safer if you can let them know. Even if they don't like the advice they'll still be thinkin about it so it never hurts to try and educate.

We just got back in, they had five or six sheriff and coast guard boats looking. Have the main part of the river blocked off. Be careful if you are going out of Ladds in Stockton.

we launched out of laads yesterday and as we were getting out around 430ish we saw these dudes in a black Centurion or something simmilar take off with hellllllllllllla people.. there was like 8 people in the bow and prolly another 10 people in the back.. we couldnt believe they were heading out like that. the nose of the bow was prolly 2 inches from the water.. and the main channel was really rough.. even just going out to ski beach which is really close I wouldnt be suprised if that boat sank.. We were really trippen off that

What is wrong with people. People say they hate boat cops but I like them. It keeps people from doing something stupid. Looks like the guys were boating at night faster than the legal limit which is NO WAKE after dark in california. The thing is that if you are not doing something wrong then it shouldn't be a problem.

Agreed Rick we wave the cops down usually the first day on the lake to get inspected and just chat for a few then they just wave the rest of the season and leave us alone.

Nope Rick. The CA Delta is "safe navigational speed" dusk to dawn since it is a federal waterway. No 5MPH after dark.

...not to say however that they wern't probably doing something stupid.

I just dont see how at night there is any speed that is very safe really. I think we all remember the pro-v on memorial weekend that was flipped over.

From what I hear of the Delta it's gnarly enough navigating it in the day time... who in their right mind would be navigating it at nite?

We come in after dark quite a bit, you would also be surprised how many boats sit and fish with no anchor light. You really have to be on guard and careful

Yeah we drive there at night quite a bit also and you just have to pay attention. Especially to the idiots that drive or park with no rear light.

Delta, No thanks.

Too many close calls for me and I've only wakeboard a handfull of times there. I am sure there are safer areas that I haven't been, but I can't believe how fast some of those boats fly through those channels. Plus how many drunks are out there. Lost Island can be crazy.

Whales, dead bodies, floating dead cows, low tide with sand bars, ECOLI at end of season, and stupid drunk boaters. I will pass everytime.

Let me guess, You went on weekends during peak times? Most people who love the delta are ones who are on it when the masses are at home i.e. during the week. I was lucky enough to grow up literally 2 miles from Ladds, and when we went out on weekday evenings we were one of the very few boats out.
I will agree that the delta can be a crazy place even for the most experienced boater. For that reason we try as much as possible to avoid peak times (11:00 am to 5:00 pm on the weekends) also for those who don't know, try to stay away from Ladds around 3:00 pm on Saturdays. That's when all the bass fishermen race to get out of the water for weigh in. When 3:00 PM comes they tend to think that all 6 lanes are for pulling out. But it is good entertainment watching them yell at each other.

Crap, I can't believe i just said that. Yes, the Delta sucks, don't ever go there it is the crappiest place in the world to wakeboard.
