I have access to a wake boat for a lake powell trip! the only problem is a tow vehicle. I dont have one.

Any suggestions? The major car rental places don't allow towing.

I am in northern UT headed to Page, AZ, where the houseboat is located

Thanks!

I see people towing with uhaul rentals all of the time. Not sure what kind of restrictions there are. Most/all seem to be towing other uhaul trailers or car dollies. Even if they would allow you to tow the boat it's pretty expensive to go that route.

Find a non-nationwide car rental place like http://www.longhorncartruckrentals.com/

Pretty sure you're allowed to tow with the rental trucks at Home Depot, too.

Check places like penske, also there may be some fleet places that will rent you a pickup

^This. I know you can find 80'-'96 3/4 ton and 1 ton Fords all day for under $1000. They're very simple and reliable trucks. Sell when done and probably won't lose any money on it, or at least less than a rental, if you can find one that will let you tow. Or heck, keep the truck since you need a tow vehicle.

Hertz and United equipment rentals will rent you a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck and yes you can tow with it. Price is like 75-100 per day or 350-400 for the week rented them before when my truck was in the shop so I could tow my work trailer and still work.

alright, cool....

anyways, the toyota dealership is renting a tow vehicle for like a third of what a national rental car company would rent one (if they would allow a tow). so i am going with them!

That's better than a $1000 truck pulling a wakeboat on a 8hr one way drive thru the desert in the summer. That sounds like a ruined trip waiting to happen.
If the Toyo thing doesn't work out, try the equipment rental places as mentioned, Hertz, United, etc.
Otherwise go rent a pickup from one of the national places and DON'T CRASH IT. If you do, pay the first guy that comes by with a pickup truck $100 to haul your boat to the next exit!
I just rented a big Penske van for my move cross country and you're "not suposed to haul any flammable materials or tow anything but a Penske trailer." Had my Jeep, 2 sleds and a 4wheeler + all my gas cans and garage chemicals that the moving co won't take in the back of the box van. Had my sled trailer, loaded, hooked to the back. It pulled like a champ!
