2005 Sanger V210 or 2003 Centurion Typhoon V 23ft?

Both are around the same price and have similar options. Mostly want to know which will put up a better wake, and general opinions about these boats.

There's a lot of V210 owners here on the boards which to me speaks volumes. You're looking at a pretty huge difference in wakes one is steep and more on the narrow side and the other more rampy and very wide. I love Sangers so that where my vote goes and it's one of the all time wakes.

Edit: my buddy has a 06 typhoon so yes I've ridden it.

If your in to hard core surfing then the Typhoon is the better choice. If you want to wakeboard even semi seriously then V210 IMO.

Go to CenturionCrew for pics of the Avalanche wake which is the same hull just a foot shorter.

If the typhoon doesn't have a switchblade I think you'll like the Sanger much more from the pics I've seen above if that's stock under the seats ballast?

Avalanche/typhoon are sensitive to weight when boarding without a blade. You have to tell people to move around.

Surfing waves are both great, but typhoon gets the nod. I own an Avy with blade.

If the 350 merc is in the Typhoon, walk away. You can prop it right and it works, but you'll be kicking yourself for a bigger motor. Needs at least the 330 scorp IMO. And they changed the drive ratio in 05' I believe. Something for you to check out.

Two different monsters really. The Typhoon has a lot more room, higher freeboard, but the wake is going to be tougher to manage, but it can be managed. Really depends on what you are looking for. An efficient small wake machine - Sanger, a multi-family cruiser that can kick up a modest wake - Typhoon.

Typhoon, I have an avalanche and my ex- pro wakeboard buddies say it's one of their favorite wakes to jump. Joe B is right though, the wake can be hard to dial in. The surf wave is amazing!

Are you in CDA, or? I am in Sandpoint. I personally don't like the walk through transom on the Typhoon. It really limits your seating. I know someone with a 210 and it's a really nice all around boat. Shoot me an email, and I can help out.

^^^^I'm just the opposite and would prefer the walkthrough transom instead of the wrap around that I have now, with its freshly torn rear seat vinyl in the exact place where the walkthrough would be. Tore at the seams, undoubtedly from everyone stepping on it.

I live in Canada so these boats are good deals because this dealer is willing to ship right up to whitefish Montana which is just over the border from where I live near lethbridge AB. I'm also lookin at resale value because boats are worth alot more in Canada.

The typhoon has so much more freeboard and might matter on bigger lakes. What motor is in that Typhoon???? Are you looking to surf too? Do you have a family or big crew?

Here is stock ballast of 3x250lbs and 2 crew dialed in and no blade 75' 23mph. 2nd pic is with blade, same stock setup.

You can get the straight up ramp like the blade with more ballast and that wakeplate I see on there.

Is the older typhoon the same hull as the Avalanche? The older typhoon has a shorter than 23' hull with a false transom that adds the extra length. Is this just the Avalanche hull with the false transom added and a different deck?

I believe the newer Typhoon is an Avalanche hull that has been lengthened some.

Seems to me you are comparing apples to oranges, a 23ft boat to a 21 foot boat there's alot in between, V215, X2 etc. Maybe look at what you can afford bottom line and wait for a little while to do more research, if you are in Canada chances are you aren't going to be riding much til June. Sanger vs. Centurion quality wise Sanger is better IMO. Seems like you are comparing a Blazer to a full size Suburban when there are a multitude of Tahoe's right in between. I'm just sayin.....

If you can wait, people get desperate a little later in the season. You can sometimes grab even better deals. The Sanger v215 would be a better boat. I know the same dealer has one for 28k.

Ya I think we are going to wait a little while till we make a decision on a boat. Ill still ask the question though because I don't know a lot about Sanger. are they not sold as much up here in Canada or something? How would you compare Sanger to say mastercraft or nautique?

Sanger hasn't changed a ton over the years. They have found something that works well and stuck with it. The Sanger dealer in the Seattle area told me that they don't like to try trends until they know it works. Their boats are known for being a great value, well made, great rough water ride, very reliable and above average wake making ability.

They are a smaller boat builder that for the most part stays on the West Coast. they don't have many if any dealers on the east coast.

Sanger compared to Mastercraft. No comparison in my opinion, Mastercraft has a lot of cool opions and bling and have great materials (maybe a notch above Sanger) but i don't think they put it together as well as they could.

Sanger Compared to Nautique. I have always looked at them as on the same level. Nothing but the best as far as craftmanship and quality. Sanger just doesn't change much so they have lower overhead and less options. I always say Sanger is a Nautique without a lot of the technology.

Sanger's biggest advantage in my opinion is that almost everything is made in house so they don't mark up their parts like a lot of the other manufacturers this obviously keeps the boats cheaper.

p.s. I am a Nautique and Sanger dealer and personally own a 2008 Sanger V-215

HWS - Sanger on par with Nautique? Wow, while over the years, I have felt that most boat makers have stepped it over the past 5 or 6 years and have closed the gap quite a bit on MC,CC and BU...those boats are still a bit above the rest. I'm not knocking Sanger, I almost bought one but was turned off by the sales guy. I also agree with Duffy but I also feel that the year of boats you are looking at are not nearly as good as where those boat makers are today. With that being said, I don't see you being unhappy with either of those two boats. On just wakeboard wake alone, imo I would pick the v210, but for the extra room (23ft)and versatility of wake/surf, I would go with the Centurion.... your strategy of waiting a while longer is a good one. I can't remember where I just saw it but I saw a 2001 super air for $22K. Now that's a no brainer so lots of good deals out there. good luck

Nickster--I am by no means saying that Sanger is Equal to Nautique. Comparing Sanger to Mastercraft, Malibu, or Nautique is like comparing Apples to Oranges. The big three have all the technology and are constantly pushing the envelope. Sanger sits back on the proven tried and true aspects of the wakeboarding and Water skiing market. But in my opinion you take all the extra options, warranties and perks of owning one of the big three and go equal boat to equal vs Sanger. the Sanger will literally drive circles around them and have a quieter ride while doing it. They are just a simple boat that has the equal to if not the best craftmanship and quality available.

Thanks for the feedback. however i did kindof word my question a little weird. i know that the big three are in a different category of customers, offering new innovations in order to stay on top. That also raises the prices. I think i meant more of comparing performance of the boats without all the extra fancy features. its just that i am a little more familiar with those boats, because of friends who own some, but i am not in the market for an expensive boat, and am trying to find a boat that performs close to their level without the extra bells and whistles which im willing sacrifice for a smaller price. Maybe im being to idealistic.

Where in Canada do you live? I am just south of the boarder, and we have lots of folks from Alberta on our lake. You can come ride in my Avalanche next spring before you make a decision.

I have bought all my boats in the spring, people are dumping boats to upgrade and dealers are dumping boats to get the new models in. It can be a great time to buy :-)
