depends on the boat but when im on my A-game 95 at about 28. the x-star you gotta roll a little it shorter cuz the wake curls over way back there but the wake is super wide at 85. learning new tricks i just ride the same as what im used to.

The guys riding 28 I wonder if the speedo is 100% accurate or if those boats are just slammed. You would think speed is speed no matter the weight setup but I find that when I really sack out my 23WSLSV I have to ride about 1pmh faster for what feels like the same speed when I'm on the water...strange.

I ride 70-75 feet and 23-24 on my Malibu. An extra 4-5 mph and there wouldn't be much of a wake remaining IMO.

75 at 23 mph for wake

and 21 mph for rails

I think about 75' at 22.5 on a Mobius XLV. Any faster than that and there is no wake, but any slower and it feels like your getting sucked under the wake. 22.5 rocks
Old     (kickflip_mj)      Join Date: Apr 2007       03-27-2008, 1:48 PM Reply
yeah the dudes that ride 28 do have their boats slammed most of the time, i couldnt emagine going that at 80ft with a stock wake. but what ever floats, i like 24' at 80' in my not so slammed vlx

Yeah, I think people should list boats as well. What is 70 on my Malibu LSV feels somewhere between 75 and 80 on the VLX.

yeah the speedometers are off when there is a ton of weight in the boat...for me 90-95 ft. the rpm's are at 3700-3800 rpms. the speed is usually at 31-32 mphs on the gauge.that is with 2500-3000 lbs sac'd back in the X-1.

WOW lots of response on this thread! One of the reasons im asking is because I just got my first true wakeboard boat and all the good gear to go with it. I grew up with old junker boats and we would just have a cheap line and handle from a garage sale or Fleet Farm lol so I didnt know what length or speed I should be riding at. I know it depends on the boat and how much ballast you have. Ive got a 2006 Supra 20 SSV with 1200lbs of ballast. Thanks everyone for your response!

maybe im the only one, but EVERYTHING changes on the boat! i know on the xlv, im usually 75-80 and +- 25.

other times, ill be riding behind a x-star and i swear 23 feels faster than i ride on the xlv.

ya justin very true . Joels whats crackin pimpin?

I ride in my sanger at 70-75 and 22.5-24 mph i usually have at least 2k in ballast. When i ride in my boys sante 220 i ride at closer to 26 mph with 1000k in ballast. Whenever i go from his boat back to mine it feels like a rocket ship at 23.5

Cody, Andy can vouch himself, but im pretty sure he had mentioned its a triple up and he has i believe, an 01 or 02 Xstar... Andy...?
Old     (liquidmx)      Join Date: Jun 2005       03-27-2008, 8:46 PM Reply
The wake is mackin fo sho, but more impressive is that the guy is HOLDING form in a fully hit triple up. Look at him, no buckling, or any sign of stress. Handle tight, LEAD hand going for grab (even more impressive!!!). I would say that most seasoned riders who hit something that meaty and peaky would be just about flailing at that point simply holding on and hoping for the best. Homeboy means business! haha.

i'm pretty sure Andy has 2001?

from my original post ~ "85' @ 26/27 mph"

this is behind a 2000 Xstar with 3700 lbs. however, i just upgraded all my sacs to new Pro Xseries this month (except for center KJB sac). this summer i'll be rockin' out at about 4200-4500 in just ballast.

Jay- do you have perfect pass yet? You will notice a major difference with it. BTW- that's a LOT of Ballast for that boat! I went to Murray's camp this winter and Travis Moye is sportin' a custom '08 X-star with the same amount of ballast, but he's got 400 HP in the boat and is propped to handle it- but it still took about a minute to plane! The wake was a freekin' wall though!
Old     (ironj32)      Join Date: Jan 2007       03-28-2008, 7:57 AM Reply
yeah i do...i put a piece of tape on the tac, and tell my girl to "keep the needle right on the edge of this line". lol, but i do have the old school perfect pass...drive up and set it. i've got the ACME 1235 prop with 330hp and it really doesn't have a problem getting up to speed.
Old     (andy_nintzel)      Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Minnesnowda       03-28-2008, 7:58 AM Reply
Yeah we rock a 2001 X-star. With an insane amount of weight in it. I am actually looking ot upgrade to a newer one this summer.
That is sort of a triple up, not a true triple. Colin and I roll these Half triples, instead of having the boat make a hard turn then coming back in at the turn rollers, we make a very slight turn, just to beef up the roller. It's way easier on the knees than a true triple, but makes a nutty huge roller. Nothing like passing over the 2nd wake and be still going up. The only real downfall is you use a lot of lake up driving it.

M-Dizzle,
Colin is an animal when it comes to upple dubs, he the only person I have ever seen who rages at ever single one full throttle. That pic turns into an insane hoochie, probably the biggest I have ever driven, he honestly went out of the mirror. Ryan Taylor has the full sequence; I will have him post it up.

Jay don’t get perfect pass, the key to life is perfect wrist!

Sorry Paul but that House clip definitely isn't Colin's biggest Hoochie2B. Here are a couple of still images. One is a result of that first shot up above and another from in the boat. There is also a spin off the double up to show you some of its monstrosity.

Also, I can attest that the images came from more of a double up than a triple. Colin and Andy drive a double up "bump" that isn't quite as jarring and just as fun to hit as a triple. Definitely boosts ya!

This is the first photo I got in the mag. Its got to be my all-time favorite for that. But ALSO it is at the house where I grew up. AND it really reveals what a super air does to water. In this case salt water, which creates the wash that makes the contour of the wake stand out even more. Whatever the length and speed, there is an ideal location behind every (good) boat that can be changed (if you speed up, you'll want more rope). Make your ramps however you want. Mike Rogers took the photo and it ran in Alliance in 02.

Usually we rock, Bald Eagle, that's were my boat is. But we take Colin ride to Owasoe and WBL a lot, sometime Lake Elmo. Dont usually hit up the south metro that much, sometimes out with Mike Bros on Minnetonka. You should come out and ride with us. I think we are going to try and put together a Minnesota Meet and Greet in August.

Dude come ride some of the local contest they are always super fun!

Soli- I would think 100 thousand pounds would sink a SANTE. Not positive about my conversion, but wouldn't that be fifty tons? Must take for ever to get that thing out of the hole.
Edit. Went back and looked again and it says 1000K. So that's ONE MILLION pounds. Holy Crap! What prop's he running on that thing?

Andy - Why are they mad, and I'm assuming that you would just ride a longer rope to get farther away from them? I'm confused.

I usually ride about 85' at 25mph, behind any boat with weight in it.

I originally told him I wanted to ride your board and that I wanted to try randall's. Randall's showed up. Maybe you can put a word into troy as well. Been since 03 on the fully committed that we rode last on my home lake in MN. Stoked to start hittin double ups soon. Cheers.

No Gator Vs. O'brien here. I know both Colin and Ricky got nothing but respect for those guys. Ricky was the first person to offer me a pull when I moved to SoCal, heck of a nice guy.
