Hello all. Thinking about changing my tower box and have been searching around for the past couple of days looking for pics. of unusual custom made tower boxes. Right now I have a fiberglass tower box that holds 6-6x9's. I really dont want to go with wetsounds or NVS. I really like the way my 6x9's sound. Just looking to change the look of my box some and maybe add some more speakers? Going to be powering the tower box with a PPI PCX4125. I like "G"s box because it is different from the normal 4-or 6 6x9's box that I see a lot of.
Any pics? Any ideas? I also like the 3 piece box that chucktronics made for a super air.
Thanks for any help.

Or- Has anyone installed something like NVS Speakers taken out of their factory boxes and installed into a custom box with some 6x9 speakers for a more full range sound? I think this would be the best of both worlds!
Any thoughts?

any pro audio will over power any car audio speakers. Maybe you havent' heard a well tuned pair of wetsoudns/NVS?? You'll get fuller sound out of the NVS/wetsopunds over a 6x9 any day, tuned correctly.

If you are going to build your own box and use HLCD you can upgrade your drivers horns and crossover signifcantly and stay in the price range of what a new pair of NVS or Wetsounds would cost.

Take a look a the Beyma 8CX20 (Driver) it is a coaxial where you can mount a horn in the middle.

Selinium makes some prett sweet High Frequency Drivers and Beyma makes top notch crossovers.

If you can build the box and get 1000 watts out of that PPI amp, then the sky is the limit with HLCD setups.

Here's one that I made a couple of years ago. It was my first and only attempt at making an enclosure. I don't have great quality speakers in there, but it serves it's purpose. It looks a little small in the pictures, but when the bimini is hanging from the tower it looks a little more proportional.....

Darren,

I really like the down firing speaker design. If I had mine to do over I would definitely do something along those lines.

Nice job!

You could do a fiberglass box loaded with bullet hollowpoints

"G" has speakers down firing in his box and it is crazy loud. Definately makes you realize how loud your system really is when your traveling across the lake not thinking that you "might" be bothering someone behind you with some crazy loud music. I dont think that most people realize how loud their music is when you dont have those speakers facing down at you. haha!

Yes, down firing speakers are the bomb. I run the downs and backs off separate faders to give a good level of control, ie I can either blast the boat or rider or both depending on the situation. Thanks for the compliments, I had never done anything with fibreglass before and it was a lot of work....

JUDE!!! Harold, I was actually looking for an old post on Sunday and came across those photos. I can call Jude and ask him what happened to it..You have his number? I haven't seen him since he chased me down on 580 one random day!

Judes box would have been slick, I think it got covered in felt at one point but never saw any newer production pics.

I'll post up a photo of my box when I get home. My 3rd attempt and just about zero space inside for what I feel is a "small" box. I've got some Image Dynamics comp drivers facing back(horns and woofs) 4 of the pioneer 6x9's facing down and two more facing a bit forward for the passenger and driver. Wiring that and mounting it all was a bit#$. I added some lights in the front but actually never finished that aspect of it. I meant to have flip down panel to cover the lights but was waiting on my bro to machine out an aluminum cover for it. I have a fabric panel that covers it now and does the job, at least it looks clean and I take it off when we need the lights. I've got most of that on a PPI4125, a PPI 440 runs the comp drivers and 6more pioneers on a seperate ppi4125.

I'd get some pro-audio drivers and 6x9's to balance out the around boat sound.

Luke- whats up man? Thanks for the pics! How do you like the sound from your box? Were you able to blend the HLCD setup with the 6x9's well?

If I remember correctly, the Camera's will actually play the riding on the screens (among other things) for the people in the back of the boat.

I think it works well. The image dynamics seem to project well back to the rider. The 6x9's really fill the boat with sound. I got a wetsounds eq last year but didn't get to take the boat out but a couple times last year. The EQ seems to help change things up quick, but we listen to such a wide range of music it can be tough to balance it all out... Go hybrid! Pro & Car audio, best of both worlds!

I see quite a few box's with lcd screes on them. Not sure about anyone else but I know we typically are out when the sun is beating down during summer. So how do you see the image? Or is it the bling factor??

I can't believe how many boxes had t.v.s in them. Watching TV is the last thing I want to be doing when I am out on the lake. Good tunes yes, but tv's, do you guys have satallite dishes for them as well.

Why don't more boxes have sub woofers on them. It is all mids and tweeters it seems. A full range set up with some bass to the riders I think would be a must if I were designing a fiberglass box.

Regardless you guys have some major tallent with some of those designs and set ups.

It seems like the days of those big fancy boxes with tons of 6x9's or 6.5's have faded away as HLCD speakers have swept the market. The boxes are still cool looking and I love the unique designs, but they seem destined to be a thing of the past. Am I way off base here? I guess it's like everything else in boating, if you like it that is all that matters : )

Patrick- Yeah, I agree. It seems that most people are buying the HLCD speakers and are not building many of these boxes anymore. Sign of the times? Could be....kinda like the first time I brought my 98 Air Nautique with a flight control tower to the lake, a family asked me,
"Is that a roll bar for you boat?" haha! I then expalained what the tower was for but its funny because now days, its kinda odd to see a boat without a tower.

I think this winter along with building a new sub box I'm gonna build a tower box. But like everyone else gonna run A hlcd setup. Try to have 4 10's and two horns facing the back, with lighting and maybe some interrior speakers facing down into the boat.

While searching for some ideas on the tower box I came across this sub box that a guy has in his SAN. Definately different! Looks like he did a great job!
