I ride a 2008 Hyperlite Premier 141 and I weighed about 240lbs when i bought the board. I currently weigh about 180lbs now and was wondering, Does board size matter? I never had any problem with the board being to heavy or not being in control of it, i just thought i might get a smaller board to help with control on sliders and lighter for spins.

You're about the right size for it now. At 240lbs it would of been a bit too small
and awesome work on the weight loss. how'd you do it?

I'm 165 lbs and ride a 142. Bigger board = bigger pop and softer landings.

You can probably search the forums and find the answer with little trouble, but genrally a bigger board will float you higher in the water, giving you more pop off the wake, while a smaller board will spin easier. The easier spinning wont really be noticable though, as most boards are super light now anyway. So the general trend is to go for the bigger size.

I'm riding a 2009 LF Watson 142. I had previously rode the 138, but I kept catching an edge when landing switch. Going to the bigger board made all the difference in the world.

To give you some perspective, I'm 150 lbs, I ride an 08 Ibex 139, and having ridden an 09 Watson 142 (my Dad's), it is noticably bigger in its riding characteristics. I pop higher and I can tell the board rides higher in the water. I dont ride the size up because it really is way too big for me (according to the Wakeworld Gear section, even the Ibex is too big for me).

Ben is there really that much of a difference as far as how high the 139 and 142 really ride in the water i have a 139 b side and my buddy has a 140 and i really cant see much of difference at all maybe its because its only one size larger?

Matt how exactly does the width of the board affect your riding?

more surface area in smaller lengths. you have a board thats 142 and is 17 wide and a board thats 138 and is 17.5 wide your surface area is going to be similarly close therefore giving you a smaller board but still riding higher in the water

Mike, I can really feel the difference, but its because I'm starting out riding a size up with my own board. When I ride the 142 its just way too big for me, so the effects are exaggerated. A 1cm difference on the same board will hardly be noticable, especially if you're in the middle to upper end of the weight range for that board.

i'm in a similar situation i use to weigh 185 and rode a 142 ,but now i weigh 165 and a 138 to 140 is fine and a 142 feels a little big.it's all your preference. try out new boards in different sizes because everyone like something different. find what feels good to you.
