Is it possible to hook an ipod up to a clarion xmd3 deck and if so, what additional hardware would I need.

Sure. You just need a cable that converts the head phone jack on your I-POD to RCA connections. They are cheap and you can get them anywhere. Then you can plug it into the audio inputs on the back of the XMD3.

Thanks Russell! Has anyone found any drawbacks to using an ipod in the boat? Also I am thinking that the 15 or 20 gig is going to be enough, if you guys have any other suggestions then feel free to let me know. We currently have a 6 disk changer and the damn thing skips on even small rollers so we are going to take it back to the dealer and get some cash back, I was thinking that a mp3 player might be my best option after getting rid of the 6 disk.

The only drawback I've found is that I can't play the iPod as loud as I can a CD. The AUX inputs seem to be a little noiser and so there's more distortion, at least on my Sony deck. But for just listening in the boat it's fine and it's great to not have to deal with changing CDs every half hour or so.

I haven't used my cd player in my car or my boat since I got my I-pod. I love it and can't live without it. I've got mine hooked through my eq. and haven't noticed any volume diminish. I've got the 15g and it seems to be enough for me. Buy one you won't be sorry.
