Best direct drives for wakesurfing?

They're all super good, just buy any of them & you'll be right as rain.

Really any inboard can be capable of surfing... it all depends on your expectations. You will not have a comparable wave to today's luxury surf machines, but you can definitely get out and ride. You'll probably have to plan on ballast on the rear seat and maybe on the side on the engine as well. The aftermarket wake shapers probably open up a lot of options as well.

The only one I have any experience with is the Supra Sunsport. Really roomy and deep hull boat for that era. Mine is a 1898. I don't surf that much so haven't failed the wake in at all, but I weigh about 230 now and can make it go on a 5ft compression molded board, even with a 5 yr old kid on the board with me can go rope less all the way down the lake.

There is a member on here Trayson who had his all dialed in, maybe he will jump on.

A bigger, more bouyant, faster board can help a lot of your wake is not great. So don't let people get you down that you can't have fun if you don't have $125k to spend on a "surf boat".

Better yet, take up wakeskating and save yourself some fuel.

I surfed off the back of a 98 moomba outback for a few yeats till we upgraded. Actually threw a decent surf wave. Although it sits so low you need to be careful when weighed down. Can take on water over the bow pretty easy

The more freeboard the better.

I had a 2002 Nautique that did shockingly well and it drove like a Lambo with the GT40. That same hull shape goes back to 1998. You can find those as low as $15K.

That hull goes back to 93 as the Sport and 95 as the Super Sport. Super Air came out in 98 but they all share the same hull. Sport is direct drive. Super Air and Super Sports were v drives. Super air is just a Super Sport with Tower and ballast as standard features.

97-98 tige pre 2150wt throws a great wave for a direct drive.
