So we had a Thanksgiving weekend trip, now a New Year's weekend trip, how about a Memorial Day trip? Now that we have an RV, our usual plans for camping/wakeboarding on Memorial Day have changed. We are looking for someplace else to go. Anyone in NorCal also looking for something to do? Perhaps we can get a group site somewhere? Ideas... anyone?

Group site at Hogan would be a lot of fun. Shasta is always a great time, too.

Misty,
The when is Memorial day...
The where is what we want to see about. We want to go somewhere we can take RV's but still have our boats in the water.

Evan,
How is New Hogan on Memorial Day. We thought of it but wondered if it was to small of a lake for that weekend.

Ok, all lakes are chopped up on Memorial day its the start of boat season for most. Only place I have found good on Memorial day is the Delta. If you get up at 8 ride till 12 you will be ok after that the nuts come out. Also most lakes are blow out that time of year it still the windy season.

Squid, Not all the lakes are chopped up.

I have since found that Canyon Lake is the best place for Memorial Day riding. when its 12:45 and the lake butter on Saturday of memorial weekend you know you have a good thing going. My tradition has been Havasu, but with the house recently sold probably not this year. Having a Memorial day birthday is awesome, it's like everyone is partying for me!!!

Tim, You guys can come up any time you want but it would be a good idea to go up once without your motor home and boat.

There's a reason why most people won't go there.
To get there you have to travel a 13 mile long dirt road that is dusty, bumpy and just wide enough for one vehicle at a time in most spots.
great views over the cliffs though.

Camp Far West; Lots of lake to find good water and lots of water camping. + i could cruise by 1/4 mile cove and re-live the past for a quick minute. + the water temp should be in the mid 70's by then.

We have gone to Camp Far West for the last couple of years on Memorial Day and have always had a good time. We camped in the overflow areas (in the dirt) which were first come, first serve. This year, since we have the RV we would need to make a reservation and they don't start taking them until April. We decided that it wouldn't be a good idea to wait until April to HOPEFULLY get a spot and if not, be SOL.

BG - what is the likelihood of McClure Point being booked already? Does this site allow RV's?

Big Ed - Where is Naci?

I called McClure, I explained our needs (a lot of people, tents, RV's) and she recommended E-Loop at McClure Point. She said we could leave our boats in the water, but there is a hill down to the shoreline. Depending on water level, we might have further to walk.

They start taking reservations January 3rd and there will be people lined up outside to make them so they won't be answering phones until after 9:00 or so. If this was something everyone wanted, we would need to coordinate how to get this loop reserved just for us. Any ideas? Anyone willing to stand in line?

Has anyone ever camped in E-Loop before?

I have also looked into New Hogan. There are a bunch of sites still available in Oak Knoll (no shade) but all sites are pretty close to water, just don't know if the shore is rocky, muddy, or what.

There are also a bunch of sites available at Acorn (partial shade) but only a couple on the water line, not sure how far to the water from the campsite.

Again, its a small lake with limited "fingers" for good wakeboarding. Although I have seen it on a calm day where the open water was BUTTER.

I'm going where ever Gary and Stacy along with the gang go ... long as there is good water to be found, Delta, Far West where ever the "fish" is in!!!

I second BP McClure would be good. and we are going up in Jan to check it out. If we could get a point with alot of room for peep's and both RV and Tent's and still be able to have boats in the water within sight it sounds perfect. Hogan is too small that time of year it is Very early riding and late afternoon riding the Tubers own it after 10 am.

McClure would be great for us. That is where I learned to waterski. That was many years ago. It would be cool. Not to say it will take us under a hour to get there.

I was just looking at the McClure map and Bagby campground looks very cool being at the end of a nice long finger and small enough for all of us to be all by ourselves. Has anybody ever been there before? The campground map shows a "no wake" zone. Does anyone know if the whole finger is no wake?

Lake Map:

One thing is that you need to think about. If we have alot of rain and the lake comes up. McClure will be full of logs. BG you being a regular up there I know you rember the year after El nino it was like playing a video game going threw all the logs. You could not get down the river it was blocked with logs. Unless they fixed that problem. BG will tell us?

I say Shasta, plenty of places to park your RV and kind of an easy drive up I-5 for all you Southern & Central Cali people and not to far of a drive for all us up North. Plus Memorial day there will be so many babes there and Im single again

Shasta...we can use my Houseboat as the meeting area to all get together. Water conditions you can always find good water on Shasta regardless of a holiday weekend or not.

CIE crew are you all in for Memorial Day again for 2006?
