I was looking at the boat buyer's guide and noticed that the Air 230 and the Crossover 236 appear to be the same boat. What makes the 236 a crossover? Is it the standard options that makes it different, I hope not since that would be severely misleading to the consumer. If it is just the standard options, is it truly a crossover?

Crossover: Part slalom boat part wakeboard boat. I have a Nautique 211, IMO no true crossover exists. V-drive = wakeboard boat, D-drive = slalom boat. Sure you can do the opposite behind them but not very well.

Exactly what I was thinking. Why the heck would they call it a crossover then?

So they can work 2 markets. They call it a "crossover" so they can appeal the old skier in you. If you DON'T want a crossover, the 230 is your boat. If you DO, then the 236.

IMO a 23 footer would never be a decent crossover.

It is probably the same as a sunsport vs Launch or X series vs Maristar. Same hulls just more wakeboarding features standard.

Is there a different hull design on the crossovers from Nautique like Malibu and their Diamond hull? If so then I'd say its a bit more than marketing hype. Remember when you get a crossover both sides are gonna give up a little something.

im gonna have to disagree with the definition of a crossover especially for the 230/236. By crossover i think they mean other sports other than hard core wakeboarding. My experience is that they are a little bit more family friendly boats and usually dont come with the same agressive trim options. Sure there are exceptions, but you can look at the old 210. What was the difference in the super air 210 and the super sport? Trim, tower, ballast mostly. Also i think the nautique crossovers have more rampy wakes with stock ballast, but not very many people are happy with stock. Its all marketing, they have to be able to appeal to different buyers. And not all direct drives are slalom boats (from what i hear the xti), in fact some really suck for slalom (2001 but has great wakeboarding wake), just like some v drives suck for wakeboarding and would be better suited at the bottom of a lake for a fish habitat. (that was a older centurian ive been behind and a "crossover" v drive sunsetter without mls but with wedge.)

I have a 236. In 07 there was no 230. The 236 team edition is exactly the same boat as the 230 for 08 and 09 as well. The only difference was the prop. 230 has the power prop and the 236 has the crossover prop more for higher end and not heavy weight. If you put the power prop on the 236 it is exactly the same boat as the 230. Nacho has it right it is strictly marketing. There are NO hull differences at all. All specs and shape are exactly the same.

It could just as easily be called a Super Air 236 same boat different graphics. Most 236's will even have the same interior equipment.

just to comment on Billy's statement, the X1 is shorter, more narrow, weighs less, and has lower draft than the X14V. I'm not calling the X1 the best crossover out right now (I have one, and you can't shortline it), and I haven't skied a X14V, so I'll be looking forward to hearing what people think, but I've never seen a V-drive that could be a crossover. I've seen thousands of D-drives that could be though- for those who are under 20 it's pretty much all we had before 2000, and the pros were doing every trick you dream of doing today behind one. edit- Billy is probably right, I just saw the Prostar 214V is 3 event certified, I'm impressed. Hope to try one out this summer. (Message edited by joe_crawley on January 02, 2009)

I'd put the new Moomba outback v against any of these boats mentioned. Awesome crossover boat.

wakeking, Build their boat better? You mean make everything plastic like CC does instead of aluminum or get the towers from China and have them redone here by Ramlin? And the 230/236 has has velcroed on dash, sorry dude but the new CC owners are all about the making more with cheaper products, which is ashame to happen to a great company like CC. The 214V has a much smaller and softer 3 event wake and about the same wakeboard wake as the sv211. The 214 is a 197 hull stretched out. The X1 doesnt have quite the small wake at 28 plus mph. I drove and rode a 214V and it was very impressive much more room as well than a sv211.

^ well since the 1st post other boats beside the 236 have been talked about.... 214v looks awesome, haven't been in it but the 211 has the most retarded seating ever, only thing it is crossing over is the aisle of the short bus, and the 236 is a beast... its a crossover between a yatch, deckboat, and wakeboard boat

It should not be called a crossover at all it's just a marketing thing. I just think it's funny how the Billy turned it into another bashing thread. Nick I agree totally about the 211.

Not bashing maybe defending. All I was saying is a "true" crossover is not a enormous 230/236 boat. Thats insane !! Try the (are you believing this Dave) 216V from CC much better crossover than the 230. I recommending a CC It just kills me when somebody says Built Better when they probably dont even know how they are built in the first place. As I have said in several posts CC and MC are the top two in quality out there bar none. Hopefully CC stays that way with the new owners. Nick love the shortbus comment very funny.
