Hey just thought that I would hit up the forum for some quick help.

I am replacing the Clarion stock stereo system that came in my 01 X-Star. I was wondering if any one has any experience replacing these, I am going to have it all professionally installed but what I really want to do is be able to still use the controller that's right over by the throttle. Any body have any tips on what Model Clarions will be compatible? Thanks.

Also I know that there are a variety of marine grade subs, and speakers, I was just thinking of buy some non-marine grade stuff at best buy? Any body have any thoughts on this? How will the non-marine stuff hold up by comparison to the marine grade? Am I just throwing money away by not buying marine equipment?

Thanks Ya'll!

Andy I just had my stereo replaced in my 03'X-2. Same boat/hull I'm pretty sure. I got a new Pioneer deck with a remote that's rectangle (previous remote is the black circle), they had to turn it on its 90 axis and make a small plate to get it to fit in the old location, but I'm happy with it. I'll take some pics and get the model # tonite.

I couldn't get too technical, but I think the best advantage of marine components is that any of the metal parts are non corrosive if water got on them. I know there's only a small chance water would get into the metal places, but probably best just to be safe. I personally don't have marine speakers, but I only have a couple kenwood 6 1/2's, easy and cheap to replace if I needed to.

andy I replaced my clarion stereo with a Clarion M455 receiver that is MP3 compatible and has input and output cables. It's a single DIN, not sure if they were single DIN in 2001 or not. Every button except Mute works on my factory remote, and I just use the pause buttom on my IPOD anyway.
