I know a lot of you are running multiple batteries so I;m hoping someone can help me. I want to run an AGM battery in my work trailer and want to charge it off my truck while it's running. I know I need a dual charge relay but have no idea exactly what I need. I am thinking of using a winch connector to connect the truck to the trailer. Is this too long of a run to work?

Any help is appreciated.

A simple heavy duty continuous duty solenoid works for this type of application. Closes with truck running, opens when truck is off. Its not too long, just use the proper gauge cabling. Use an Anderson connector for the disconnect. Its what wreckers use for jumper cables and such.

Any chance you have any links? Thanks for the reply.

You will likely want some circuit protection at the source http://www.waytekwire.com/item/48885...eset-1-4-Stud/

TigeMike, you rule. Thanks so much. I was thinking of using solar to keep the trailer battery charged, but between the panel, charge controller, inverter and high amp hour AGM battery it's getting expensive to go that route.

Any RV shop should be able to help you. If you already have an RV style plug on your truck you already have a 12v going to your trailer. It is just a matter of the correct wiring on your trailer itself.

I believe you would utilize the same type of wiring that most campers have, where the center post on the seven round connector is usually a larger gauge wire and supplies charging voltage to the trailer "house" battery

What about a good source for high aH batteries? I need to use an AGM since it's going to be located inside the trailer. I would like at least 125 aH @ 20 hrs.

Do you need to make sure that power is killed with the engine off so you don't drain your car battery into the battery to be charged?

Tim,

The continuous duty relay will take care of that for you. It will open the B+ circuit when the tow vehicle ignition is off.
