I am looking at making my first V-Drive purchase and I am fairly new to the world of wake surfing. I am currently considering 3 boats and was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with them. Which of the 3 have the best out of the box surf wake?

Any advice would be appreciated.

The 3 boats are:

2008 Tige RZ2

2008 MB Sports B52V 22'

2012 MB Sports B52V WideBody 21'

I've had nautique and MC,, so don't know really, i have heard good things about both. In arkansas axis has really took off. MB dealer also but i don't see many on the water. I think fit and finish is better on the MB though

2012 MB hull out of the box will be miles a head of the 2008 MB. the 2012 hull is v shaped (better for surfing) and the factory ballast is not only more but more convenient with the flood gates.

also ballast in the 2012 MB is 1,800lbs and 2008 tige had an optional 900lbs. Both will probably need more weight to get a nice wave but out of the box the mb will be better due to the extra weight.

I use to own an 08 RZ2. Had about 1100 pounds in each rear corner and that boat would throw a big, fun surf wave.

Thanks for the response.

I guess the 2012 sold so it's down to the 2008's.

The B52V is actually 21'6 I wonder if that will be a big enough boat to give me a good wake. It does have 1800 pounds of factory ballast.

I have a 07 RZ2, not sure how it compares to the 08 MB but i can say it does put up a nice surf wake. The Tige factory ballast system is small and you'll really want to pull most of it and add your own sacs to make it surf better.

An 08' b52 is my primary wake maker(don't currently own). Probably one of the best all around wake machines of the time before major focus on surfing came into play. We currently run the following in weight:
Wakeboard
Full factory ballast(2 hard tanks on port and starboard rear to mid ship)
~900 lbs lead mid ship under seats
400 lb sack on floor mid ship, all the way to the the back
750 lb sack in the bow along with about 150 lbs of lead under the seats in bow

Surf
Take the same weight as above , empty one side of factory tanks, move all mid ship lead to one side and drain sack in bow to ~3/4 capacity.

These setups work well for up to 4 people. Any more people and your taking on a ton of water while surfing or taking way too long to get on plane while boarding.

Thanks a lot guys!

Jason,

Is that a 23' or a 21'6 B52? I heard the length makes a difference. Can anyone comment on this?

First pic doesn't show the wave but I threw it in there to show that it's good enough to party wave it 🍻🌊 Not a ton of room to do much with 2 riders but you can cruise no problem
