Hey Guys, im looking to buy my first boat. Im 19 years old and ive been looking at a 1991 Sanger FX22. I love to wakeboard and im just wondering how the wake is and if it will be far superior than my families current boat. (2003 Bayliner I/O) any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Back in the late 90's my buddies parents had a Sanger DXII and the wake was actually really fun with some weight in it! I dont know anything about the FX22 but the transom looks to eliminate a lot of space in the boat.

Where are you located and what is your budget? The guys on here can help you find the best bang for your buck.

The FX22 is weird animal. It has a deeper v entry in the bow area and a flatter hull. I can't comment directly on fist hand surf knowledge as I have never surfed it, but the molded in swim deck may not allow that boat to lean very well without digging in to the wake.
It throws a good wakeboard wake , bow to stern gives you some decent room w open bow , little on narrow side on width. Rides well and is a solid performer.

It's a rare boat that's built solid, but not sure it fits your more surf specific needs.

Thank you both for the help!

Seth: im located in the central valley in California half way between Fresno and Bakersfield. I have a pretty low budget due to my age but between 8-10 K ish?

xstarrider: Thats good to know. Never have really been into surfing as much as wakeboarding. Do you think it could possibly meet a wakeboarders needs?

Sorry for surf info. I swear I read you were looking at it for more surf. My bad. As a wakeboat its good. It gives you the extra space with the open now which is always nice. The wake is decent and due to its narrow beam and deeper v entry it doesn't need a crap ton of weight.

I would assume being 19 you're gonna want to have more than a few buddies out on the boat. So in the 8-10 k range this will be your best find, TheNautique late 80's closed bow 2001 model is anothe best option, but space and being a closed bow is a downer.

The other bang for your buck older boat is the Supra Sunsport. The thing is huge and wakeboards very well. That would be my first pic. If you haven't check onlyinboards.com

Great option here as well. Little far but great boat if you want add little elbow grease

I'd go for either of those nautiques kyle or try to find a sanger v210/dlx. All of those boats throw a good wake. Never really heard much about the fx22 and it has an integrated platform which kinda sucks(messing with the wake and aesthetics).

The FX22 is superior to the bayliner io.

Starrider I posted on another thread that was about a 92 fx22 that was about wakesurfing! So I'm bettin you saw it there! And you're right about me having more than a few buddies, I packed my bay liner out almost every time I went last summer so hopefully this next boat will be much better! I'll check around for some older nautiques and that supra, I appreciate it!

Bam just wondering how do those plat forms mess up your wake? I was reading about that other places as well. Just wondering how it does that

Bftskir I'm glad to hear it, that I/o wake was as narrow as a stick and as soft as a pillow

Dude any of those is better then a Bayliner (no offense) .. Sanger builds an excellent boat that 22fx is a bit of a different design but I'm sure its a solid boat as long as it was taken care of . Be sure to look for all the obvious signs of mistreatment if you can have someone that knows boats look at the stringers and all that to be sure everything is sound . If you can find one Id go for the Sanger V210 as well like someone above me mentioned . Natiques are great too I just think Sangers look ten times better .

This boat is a great deal and has a great wake. Talk your dad into selling the bayliner and partnering on this V215.

I owned a 92 and can tell you it was a great first boat. I added a tower and ballast and it was awesome. I pulled the back seat out and went with a fat sofa. We'd fill it for wakeboarding and surfing. It was shy in storage, but I typically only had about 4-6 people, so it wasn't a big deal. I will say that the built in platform did add a double lip for surfing, but it wasn't terrible. None of us were good enough to know the difference or care! For wakeboarding, the wake was more than sufficient for what we could do. The things to look for are rotted stringers as they're all wood, pay close attention around the engine hatch and behind the back seat in the corners. Mine had a VM trailer, which is a very well built trailer, local to California, but they have surge brakes, if that matters to you at all. I did redo the bunks, and replaced all the bearings, jack and winch shortly after I purchased it, so make sure to figure trailer maintenance into your purchase. Good luck man!

Well guys I had the 22fx all lined up to go buy this upcoming week and the guy gave me his word he'd hold it, but turns out he sold it out from under me the day before I was going to get it so if anyone knows of any open bow inboards between the 8-10k range PLEASE let me know. I'm located in Tulare county in California

Lesson number one when shopping radars find cost effective rides. Be ready to move because they do not last. Good luck in search. Did the Sunsetter pan out
