Sorry, one more stereo question (from a total newbie)...if I have a six speaker tower set-up, will I run into any issues running six tower speakers from one 2-channel amp?

Big time. Most inexpensive amps will not be stable at 1 ohm. Chances are you will blow both your amp and your speakers if the amp does not have clip protection circuitry and if you try and turn it up very loud. There are amps stable at 1 ohm, but most amps at 1 ohm will have a very high THD. This is okay running subs, but it will make a noticeable degradation of sound in mids and highs.

so doug, would i be best off running the amp at 4 ohms, then powering two of my interior boat speakers off of the same amp? I would then run a seperate 4 channel amp for the other 4 interior speakers. Does that sound right?

You first mentioned running tower speakers. Now you are talking about interior speakers. I only question it because it determines how many speaker wires you are running through your tower. But to answer your question. Most quality amps are stable at 2 ohms. Meaning you can run 4 speakers in series on a 2 channel amp. You can run 6 speakers on a 4 channel amp. 4 speakers wired in series on two channels and 2 speakers on the other channel. Just make sure you buy a high quality amp if you do that. The difference in ohms per channel could burn the amp. What brand do you have in mind?
