Looking into X-Series, and wondering about the best wake from any boat but the X-Star. Suggestions?

I had the 2005 X-2 (the current X1) The wake was great, but I've grown to like the X-Star wake much better. With that said it's a more expensive boat to run. Bigger boat means more weight, more motor, more gas!

I hear the x-15 is as good as the star.

I like the xstar , the csx and the x1. THe wake with the x1 weighted right is awesome it just depends on what your budget is.

X-star with pro-tour ballast upgrade is all you need.

My buddy got an x-15 this summer- brand new '08 with all of the options for UNDER 50K. there are great deals out there - especially if you have cash and want to travel a bit. I won't disclose the details as most Mastercraft dealers say they have territory princoiples, etc, but it doesn't hurt to ask around.

If the X-15 was a foot longer (specifically in the rear locker/sundeck area it would be a serious contender on my next boat list. The rear lockers are just to small on that boat, can't fit much ballast back there for surfing. You could never fit a 750 sac back there, I had 1-1/4 400# sacs back there on a demo. Can't complain about the rest of the boat it's pretty legit. I do feel they are severely over priced though (msrp). It would be ok if you could get one in the 50's though.

The only wake I like more than our X1 is the X Star. With that said, I've ridden a couple other newer MC's and they don't compare in wake with the X1. Interior space is another story...

2000 X-Star (now X1)

X-35 is top notch! You have to see it to believe...

I liked the X-35 I demo'd better than my X45. I really think it compares very nicely to an X-star.

based on wake alone i think i would have to go with the X1/old X2/old XStar(205v Hull)

going with overall boat, i'd have to go with the picklefork XStar...so much more room. i suppose if i spent and entire summer behind a picklefork XStar i'd the wake just as much, if not more.

X-1 no doubt if you like a vert style wake

Buying an MC solely for the wake...X Star
Buying an MC for the family...X15, 30,45,35,55,80 whatever you're needs
Buying an MC for the best mix...X15
Buying an MC for the value...used pre-03 XStar or pre-05 X30

My girl, who is a WAY better rider than I could ever hope to be and was a MC rider lists them in this order. She also had all these boats for a season and put at least 150 hours on each one.(way more on the X-Star as she had that for 3 seasons in a row)

1. CSX (looks weird but the wake is crazy good)
2. X-Star
3. X15(our favorite for all around boat playing, and the best surf wake in the MC lineup)
4. X1, old X2, old Xstar, 205v hull. Whatever you want to call it.

I'm pretty much just a wake surfer, so I go X15 first, then CSX, then X35.

Falco is right on the CSX. Once people get in one, they love it, and getting behind one is even better. The hard top and center console seem counterintuitive in most people's minds, but it's an awesome wake, and about as family friendly for all around use you could want. I have one for sale if you want to come to MI to take a spin.

I have only rode behind an older xstar 205v style model and a 2004 and 2009 xstar but it depends what you are looking for the older xstar/(x1 now) has an awesome straight up vert wake when weighted right... the new xtar wakes can get massive but take alot of weight and the transition is SUUUUUPER RAMPY. U literally have to make yourself not leave early when riding it but when u wait u get booted pretty good. I like the older wake a little better but the new boat is pretty sweet

I love the CSX wake, I'm coming from SAN 210 wake so I like the solid straight up BOOT!! It's a win win with the CSX because its a direct drive so it handles GREAT and has a GREAT wake too.

It's got to be the X1.

http://www.mastercraft.com/boats/overview/x1

I've heard many things about the CSX stock wake being excellent but I can't speak to that. The CSX line just happens to be one of my favorite lines of boats in all of wakeboarding. Especially the 265SS. Those CSX boats are among the most important things to happen in the wake/ski/inboard boat scene in at least a decade.

Why the X1? I personally don't think that needing a minimum of 2000lbs on top of stock ballast to make a rider happy is reasonable for someone just getting into the sport or into a brand new wake boat. I've not had good experiences with the X2 or the X-Star STOCK - so please don't misinterpret this as a total write-off. I know a heavily weighted X-Star is fine and I regarding the X2, I personally don't like the boat, weighted properly or stock. The X2 is a 60,000 mistake.

The X1 reacts extremely well to 1200lbs or so, and it's all hidden away. No bags to see, and remaining room for your stuff. I guess that's one of my pet peeves.

Long live the X1. I'm so glad its still in MasterCraft's lineup. Good on them for keeping it where other companies have dumped classic hulls from their lineup.

Michael, what motor do you have any your xstar?
Old     (michaelspsp)      Join Date: Sep 2007       08-13-2009, 6:14 PM Reply
MCX , the AXIS I was on had the 400. it was sweet. got on plane in seconds
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       08-14-2009, 5:59 AM Reply
That 400 motor in the Axis is a special build. There are only 2 that I know of in my area. One is Vandalls. That's the one to have though.

Your star is more than capable of matching that Axis in the wake department.

Yup.... The Star is the best wake I've ever ridden. You've gotta ride behind it for a while to get used to it, though.

Before falling in love with the X-Star I was totally into the X2, X1 hull.

it was Adam McCalls, he pulled it off the assembly line the day before. the front middle seat wasnt even bolted in. It was during the Knoxville Pro Tour weekend. just missed riding w Vandall the night before. the thing got on plane instantly.
do you guys add weight to the front of the Star?
i have the ProTour package.

By far, hands down nothing can compare to an x-star wake. I've ridden them all and it stands alone. That said, you do not need to load the piss of out a boat to get a good wake. In an X-star, vdrives in the back with another 500 in the nose, 2-4 people...money. X-1 is the next best wake...right out of the box. Whatever you add to the rear, add to the nose. for a really really good wake, side sacs in the back, 500lbs in the nose couple few passengers and it is excellent.

the other boats, X2,15, 30 are nice but different.

By the way guys...it gets rediculous when everyone says, you need 3-4K of weight in a boat to have a good wake. I've had numerous people out to ride and every time they say...I love that wake, how do you do it? Even guys with the same Xstars... I roll with stock plus 1,300lbs. No more. If more six or so people get in...empty stock. Even my old Xstar/x-1...same compliments. the wakes are just way to big and vert that you just get kicked funny and crash all the time. no fun burning gas starting and stopping. check out the old school stuff in alliance where the ride behind a empty PS190 off the pylon. Fricken murray goes bigger on a little wake than most of us on an overloaded wake.
