Best Coffee Maker?

My Cuisinart finally died.I was going to get the same one,but the reviews all pretty much said the same thing,It just died,which is what mine did.

Yes,I have several French Presses,but making coffee at 2am is something I'd rather not think about,so it has to be automatic.

Any ideas?

I have had it for over 3 years and it works as good as the day I bought it. I found another carafe so when we have guests I can run 2 pots. The carafe keeps the coffee warm enough I can have a cup after work and it's still hot. If you look around you should be able to get one for about $70.

This is a good programmable auto drip.

I personally only will use Technivorm coffee makers, they make the best pot of coffee, but no program feature.
If you fill it with water and put the coffee in before you go to bed, it only takes 5 mints to brew a pot of coffee.

Buy a Bunn. Not programmable but who needs to when it brews 10 cups in 3min. Awesome and fast.

Keurig, fresh perfect cup every time takes like 30 seconds. The packs are like 40 cents each but it will change your life.

^^^^ Ding ding ding ding. I did not really even like coffee all that much until we got one of those. It is absurd how good it is. Best thing is there is no clean up, no prep. Only thing to clean is the mug.

The wife bought a Keurig and it is addicting. When I'm eating right, I stay away from coffee, because I have to add french vanilla to it... and drink tea. There are some great spiced teas and some green teas!

We found some at a liquidator place and bought one for her mother and one for our son when he gets his place this summer for his internship. Yes, I did increase my caffeine intake when we got ours.

I agree with Goodtimes - It is hard to beat a press if you really love coffee. We actually grind the coffee (Italian Roast) really fine instead of course which puts little granules into the coffee.

Personally I love my Cuisinart Grind and Brew. Set it before bed and its ready when I get up. Love the smell of fresh ground coffee in the morning. Takes one minute to clean up. I will say those Kuerigs are pretty nice also. What do you do when you want to fill your mug up to take to work? brew 2 or 3 cups seperately?

The newer models have 3 sizes up to 10oz but yes you have to brew two if you have a big mug. The up side is still only about a min and a half.

Our Keurig has 3 settings, the ones we bought for family have two. I make coffee in the "tall" and it'll fill the to-go mugs up about 3/4 of the way up. If I make tea, two of the "mids" (the "tall" is too weak for tea) fill it up to the top. I have to pour off a little to add the honey.

Yeah, the only downer with the Keurig is that it brews really small cups. If you try to go with the biggest cup the coffee starts getting kinda weak. I usually use 2 cups. One small cup and one medium to get a full cup with the right strength.

Other than that, I love the Keurig. We've got one at home and two at work. So far no problems, and the one's at the shop brew a lot of coffee.

When we're drinking multiple cups we use our Cuisinart. The only thing I'd like to have on the Cuisinart is a thermal carafe. The only ones I've found that way are the grind and brew's, but I've heard of a lot of problems with those units. I like my grinder seperate.

Who else hates coffee that sits in the carafe burning. That's the part that drives me crazy. All it takes is 10 minutes and I can start to taste the difference. I always brew, then turn it right off. If I want a second cup, then I micro it back up to temp.

I'd love to find a decent maker with a thermal carafe. Any suggestions for that.

Again, this is part of why I like the Keurig. I just feel bad on the weekends when I have two cups and the wife has 2 cups. We bang through 8 of the K-cups in a hurry.

Wish my Cuisinart grind and brew had a thermal carafe.. My next move will be buying a nice Thermos, brew the coffee then instantly dumping in a Thermos then I'll have coffe all day, which would be really nice on the weekends. Weekdays I brew, have a cup and put the rest in my Starbucks insulated cup which keeps it warm most of the day.

The best coffee makers (taste wise) I've owned were the old school percolators. The taste from those is just better than most auto-drip coffee. However, it seems like the percolators don't last very long before they stop working, usually a year or two.

The last few years I've used a cheap old Mr. Coffee 4 cup drip coffee maker. I buy Foldger's whole bean Colombian coffee and grind it up before each brew. I brew one cup at a time and drink it immediately after it's finished brewing. I still contend that percolators make better tasting coffee, but I'll put my Foldger's fresh brewed coffee up against anything out there!

I see we have some coffee nerds here, anyone else that does their own roasting from green coffee beans? It's kinda fun to do, saves a few bucks, gives you some control over the roast, and lets you choose favorites from high quality beans. Commercial roasters (Starbucks, etc) don't use the best of beans and they over-roast to cover up quality issues and deliver a consistent product.

As for brewing, for the last year or so I've been making 2 cups a morning in an Aeropress. Yes, the cheesy little plastic thing that looks like a toy. It's kind of a PITA compared to automated options, but makes a unique coffee that's a nice change from standard drip or espresso.

nate- my wife and i run our own roasting company- it's just getting off the ground, but the benefits are awesome! we have a few different brewing options- Aeropress (both she and i have one)- this is the only way to have it when not at home, Rancilio Silvia, and siphon pot, french press... we like our coffee. we prefer to not use the drip method, but have one in the back room just in case. that said, my sister and brother in law have the keurig and love it...then again they don't have the patience to wait for a better cup of coffee (they've admitted).

For the Kuerig owners, any problems? We have looked at Costcos, they have the b77 with a decent starter pack, but the online reviews make them sound undependable. Did not get that impression from folks here.

Im not sure i could go on without mine so far so good.

I don't drink coffee but I looked in the kitchen and my wife has a Jura Ena 4. This is the second Jura she's purchased and she says they're awesome. She gave the first one which was a Jura Ena 3 to her sister and evidently she loves that one. I wish I could give you details but I can't even stand the smell of coffee, I'm just going on what they tell me. Might want to check it out.

After having worked in Basel Switzerland for a while years ago, I became obsessed with the office Super Automatics. Finally got one about 6 years ago for $1200, but its been flawless.

Makes STRONG coffee (Swiss style) or espresso. The crema (foam) on top of each cup is awesome. Grinds, tamps, pressurizes, ejects coffee, cleans itself and is ready for another person in seconds.

Regarding the Keurig, you need to make sure you like the coffee that they offer. I have tried a couple of the Keurig K-cups and I did not like it as much as our favorite local Italian Roast through a press. It tasted good, but not near as good and what we drink every day with a press and our favorite locally roasted coffee..

They make a reuseable filter setup so you can make your own.

I hear the Donut Shop is popular, might get a box to try. We have the 72 count that came with the machine, I do not see a ton I get excited over. I also want to find a good french vanilla flavor.

Donut shop is awesome. Caribou makes great coffee IMO and if you go to one of their shops or their site you can get flavors other than the straight caribou flavor. I wish they had fireside in kcups.

I like the Coffee People, Wake-Up Call X-tra bold. It's the strongest and tastiest I've found for the K-cup machine.

Reliability wise: so far-so good. Like I said before, we have 3 Keurig machines and all work well, though mine at home had a little glitch over the weekend. I had to shut it off and restart. It kinda got stuck in the middle of a brew.

I'd like to get one of the personal adapters so I can start grinding my own coffee, again.

About the best deal out there (for K-cups) is at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Grab the 20% off coupons and it's not too bad and they have a decent selection.

Ours came with or the wife bought the reusable filter adapter. I think I may go run some Toffee Coffee through it right now.

Yeah, the 70 only looked like it accomodated taller containers but not much of a difference from the 60.

The sams keurig comes with 80 k cups, good deal.

I got the special edition from Macy's last time. It came with 24 K-cups. I think we got it on sale for $120-ish.

Manzo, I like coffee stout. It makes me kinda picky. When my wife brews coffee with out drip machine it tastes like water. I like to fill the filter till it's just about to overflow. Yum. Rocketfuel. I'm totally good with one nice big cup. I wish the K-cup would make slightly bigger cups. My standard coffee mug uses a medium setting and a short setting to get a full cup. If you brew a cup with the biggest setting it's just not strong enough for my taste.

If I recall right, SAMs club has the b66 pack for 129, costco had the b77 pack for 139. Think both came with 72 cups. The costco one comes with cup you can fill, SAMs comes with a water filter. We choose to go with the b77 since it did he larger containers( not sure if the b66 does iced beverages also). So far so good with ours, just trying the different flavors. Also ordered a box of 50 from amazon of donut shop( 21.99 and free shippng on order 25 or more)

However, does anyone know what is up with the pump and the water container setting? The reviews at Costco.com say that there are a number of people having issues. It will pump 2.5 ounces, they call customer support (cs), cs "fixes" the issue, and then the machine starts pumping out 12.5 ounces when a 4 ounce cup was requested.

Never had an issue with an overfill, but sometimes it does variate due to, what I can only determine, to be the last request. I think ours is the Special Edition.

Thanks for posting that David. I measured mine on the middle setting (7.25 oz) and only got 4.5 oz. Called customer support and was told there was a bad batch around Christmas time. Based on my serial numbers, it was probably part of the batch.I figured I would do whatever fix people are talking about, but they are sending me a new unit, and I keep the old one should I choose to. Funny thing was, I put on two more cups while on the phone and they measured correct, but customer service rep replaced anyway since it did it once and could start doing it more.

I haven't had an issue with mine and we have made 10+ cups already.

I will admit, this isn't the best cup of coffee I have every had since there has been some coffee bars that I have gone to that were just outstanding. But when it comes to brewing a cup at home, this is by far the best cup I have ever brewed

Keruig-I'm just not into them.It's fine while your at work and stuff,but I don't like the idea of being locked into one particular brand,and sometimes I fill a small thermos for those cold days at the lake.

Ricardo, there are a ton of different brands of coffee available for the K-cups. Right now I'm on Seattles Best, and it's pretty tasty stuff.

The Keurig's are a great single cup solution. Lately I've been drinking my coffee at home before work. All I want is one cup. It was a wast to make a whole pot to get 1 cup with a traditional maker. A french press would have been cool, but a lot more effort/time goes into that.

I think G has a Cuisinart. He posted a thread last year or the year before.

The cool think with drips is that a $10 maker will make just as good of coffee as a $200 maker. For me the downer it the burnt flavor you get after a few minutes on the heat.

Ricardo, get the Technivorm, nothing else comes close to it, I am a coffee freak, it is the best cup of coffee you will have at home.

With the copper heating element it brews coffee at the correct temp and that is what is most important.

Were usin the back up drip right now,and after a few minutes,it's jus nasty.....

Trust me, if you want excellent coffee at home it is really the only choice.

I just got a Keuring B77 from costco and I'm loving it - except mine shuts off all the time. I called the company and I am waiting for the free replacement.

Using Evan's suggestion of 2 cups to get a strong brew makes a really flavorful cup of coffee. Thanks!

Yes the coffee ends up coming out similar to french press.

the Keurig does have a reuseable filter that does a very good job and the filter is similar to the normal drip coffee reuseable filter but I think it's a little better.

I like the Tully's French Roast the best right now and the Tully Kona isn't bad. Having a Donut House one and it's okay. I wouldn't mind the Jet Fuel one to see how strong it was. Since we got our Keurig, I didn't realize how strong I was making the drip coffee. I was apparently putting in too much coffee/water amount.
