My, new to me, VLX came with a pair of wetsounds pro 60's powered by a Rockford Fosgate punch p500-2. Two other punch p500-2 power the sub and additional speakers. Music inside the boat is more than loud enough. The main issue is I cant hear a thing when wakeboarding. What would be the most cost effective way to support the tower speakers? Is the punch good enough for the pro 60's? Should I get another pair of 60's and an additional p500-2? Thanks for any input you guys may have.

Don't bother adding a second pair of pro 60's. Look at any brand you choose but if you wanted to stay in the Wetsounds brand I'd recommend Rev8's or Rev10's. The Rev 10's alone would be louder than 2 pairs of pro 60's. I just did this myself this year with the Rev 10's and it made a huge difference. You'll most likely need to upgrade the amp to support them properly as well.

Thanks, now to start reviewing old threads about speakers. I am sure there are a ton of opinions out there.

Since you have a 2 chnl amp, it would be almost plug-n-play to add a 2nd set and that would greatly increase your wake range projection. Just note, the Pro-60 is long retired, so you would be hunting for used ones that could be as much as 8 years old.

A pair of Rev-10 is certainly going to be at the top of the food chain on terms of both SQ and output. Double the wattage you have now, and Rev-8 will do just fine.

In summery, you are about 100 watts short or a 2nd pair shy.

do you think the rev 8 would work with the existing amp while keeping the existing pro 60's or would I be greatly under powering it? It would be nice to only have to purchase a pair of speakers instead of both speakers and amp.

Joe,

Moving up to the Rev series will certainly be an upgrade in sound quality over the old pro series. Going to a larger speaker will also be an improvement in sound quality. A larger speaker will naturally play louder than a smaller speaker, so you will have a gain in output both near field and at wake range. However, maintaining the original 125W rms, i'd have to caution against expecting a seat-of-the-pants OHM difference in volume at wake range. The larger speaker allows for increased power handling. This is when the full potential of the upgrade can be realized.

I would go into it with the mindset that an amp upgrade will be done down the road, when the budget permits.

Since I am new to the speaker/amp world what would be a reasonable choice for an amp to match with a rev 8? My main issue is to hear this at wakeboarding distance.
thanks, Joe

For the money, the Wet Sounds HTX-4 for a single pair of Rev-8 is hard to beat.

if I upgraded to the rev10 is there any reason to keep the pro 60's?

Not on the boat, but they work well on the roll bars of a wrangler
