Please Help!

My family has a Malibu Wakesetter 23 Lsv and the wake is great, but I have to ride at 65' feet back. When I make the rope any longer the wake is washed out. I am wanting to lengthen my rope. Is there any way I can lengthen it without having the wake be washed out?

Increase your riding speed.

increase ballast, make sure your boat is balanced. and as Kellen said, increase riding speed.

Do I need more ballast up front or in back?

most likely upfront. The wakesetters need lots of nose weight. Weight upfront will clean up the wake and make it a little narrower and mellower. Weight in the back makes it steeper, wider and if it gets too steep, it washes out.

Wow, we run ours at 23 and we ride at 80'. We only put two 500 sacks in the middle and ours does fine. It washes out about 2' behind us then. Wish I could have been more help.

Should I put the weight in the bow walkway or in the bow?

Well depends on the type ballast and if you like walking on it. On a related side note, i can't wait for the day when a manufacturer creates an after market bow anchor that hangs off the front like big ships and then markets it as creating a huge wake because of its "extreme forward location". They'll call it the "Down Anchor", because you gotta be "down" to rock one. So hardcore.

Im going to fill a cooler with water and also fill a few milk jugs with water. Im guessing it will be about 100-120lbs. How much do you think an average sized cooler full of water would weigh?

You need to get at least 500 pounds up there. Figure a gallon of water weighs approx. 8 pounds, a big cooler could potentially hold close to 20 gallons. Think about this, the bu's like nose weight & when you drop that Wedge it is the equivalent to 1,000 pounds, you gotta do something to counter it and that means at least 5 hundo up front. The 23 is a big boat and it takes more weight to sink it too.

Yep, Big Heavy is right on the money. I was running 600 lbs up front give or take and it helps. I would imagine you would need 500 lbs in the bow minimum. I know that at wakestock last year, they had an additional 350 or 400 lb fatsac in the bow along with the factory bow ballast to keep the nose down. About 5 or 6 people in middle and back and all stock ballast tanks full and the wedge was down. Do you have a factory bow tank in your wakesetter? I think they hold about 350 lbs up there, plus the 350 to 400 fat sac, they were running 700 to 750lbs bow weight. The wake was really clean and nice.

We have full factory ballast. Next time I go out I'll make a few people sit up front. Maybe bump my speed up 1mph. Thanks!

You might want to check your speed with GPS. I have yet to see a boats speedo correct when it leaves the factory.

Yeah, I agree with Stusumm. you should double check that your speed is on with a GPS. I would consider weighting the boat done more too. Most of the time when we ride my buddies LSV we put 1k in the bow, 1200 on the floor, and 1200 in rear, and the factory full, seems to be perfect oh yeah, and no wedge. I ride that boat at 25.5-26 at 85 feet and its perfect, in fact I would say its giant sized! Go luck, you should have no problem making that wake scary big.

You might consider putting some lead weight up front to supplement or totally replace any fat sacs you might use otherwise. If you keep your boat on a lift that can handle all the weight...that would be awesome...or hopefully you have a trailer that can handle the extra weight when towing. I just got some of these....

We keep lead in the bow so there is always extra weight in the front. When we want to go real big with only a minimal crew. Fat sac across the bow and in walkway. Especially if your running the wedge you need more weight in the front to counter balance the extra bow rise.
