I paid half of my boat up front and the other half i took out a loan. I paid it off in July of last year and I still havent gotten my title from the bank. Finally, today, they gave me an answer other than "it will be in the mail and delivered in 10-14 business days"

They now say I had a UCC against my account (I guess thats like a lean on my account) until I paid off my loan, which I did. But now, I don't need a title and there isn't one.

I thought you are supposed to have a title to a boat? I asked the woman "what if I want to sell it tomorrow? The person just trusts me that it's my boat?" She pretty much said YES. That I have the serial number and documents showing I paid the note on it.

IS THIS TRUE? I DONT NEED A TITLE?

I dont know how the laws are where you are, but in Florida, you have to have a title to exchange boats. I would ask your local dealer since they deal with this everyday. IMO, the bank needs to file a lien release to reflect that you have no liens against the boat, and you should be given a copy.

You just need to go file for a lost title. Its a long process but worth it. THe first boat I bought the guy lost the title and I just filed for one. Its not that big of a deal

In Arkansas you only have to have a title for the trailer. The bill of sale acts like a title for the boat. Not sure how it is where you are at.

I found out that you dont need a title in the state of TN. Having an MSO (manufacturer statement of origin) or your bill of sale will suffice.

thanks for the help guys.

in cali you recieve your "pink slip." it comes from the DMV. it shows ownership of the boat and it has a place for 2 signitures on the back. one for you and the other for the new owner when you sell. then once the boat is re-sold the new owner will recieve a new pink.

The UCC filing protects the lienholder from you selling or transfering ownership without their interests being met. Here in Cali boats have title handled by the DMV but expensive equipment that is loaned on or leased works just like that.

My title got lost in the mail. The process to get one wasn't that bad. I just had to get a notary to sign an affidavit (Sp?). I got my new title about 2 weeks later.
