I have a 2006 Malibu VlX. I did not get the bow ballast because I did not like how it took up all the floor space in the bow. Does anyone know of ways I can weigh the bow down with anything except fat sacs. I would like to put weight under the seats in the bow so they are out of the way. I have heard people talk about lead
bags. Any help would be appreciated.

You could invite some fat people on your boat and have them be the fatsacks. Lead is toxic. Do you have kids?

Check out the Pop bags from Pop Products. They are steel shot intead of lead. They are sealed in plastic, packed in cool vinyl bags with handles, and they mold and form into the tightest areas.

You can put lead in pvc pipe and cap the ends.

throw the lead in some small bags. I have a 120lb book tote, for example. used foil baking pans and wrapped with duct tape. lead's only toxic is you breathe fumes or somehow get it in your body.

Here is how we weight the mighty Malibu with Pop bags, but you're going to have to step it up even more since you didn't get the bow ballast.

Thanks for all your help.
I guess I meant steel shot in the first place not lead. I am going to call Troy and order some.

How much weight in pop bags should I get? It looks like they come in 40lb bags.

I can not understand why you would not get the bow tank. There is so much more room in the new VLX's. Their wider, their longer, and their deeper than the 04's. I have a sub in mine and still have more than enough room for storage.

I hated how the floor raised up to the bottom of the seats. I figured there had to be a better way to add weight.

Can you put the bow tank in after?

Yep, unfortunatly for Brian, that boat has to have a lot of weight up front. In fact, the bow tank should be bigger than what it is.

doubtful. But, you may want to look at other options along with the lead/steel. like sacs under the bow seats or something. Your prolly don't want that much weight in steel up there all the time. think about putting it on the trailer. or driving with no weight in the rear and fully ballasted in the front.

Adding a pump, switch, hoses and sacs to your existing system shouldn't be too difficult. bow tank, no. bow sacs, prolly.

I cannot believe a dealer would let you NOT order the bow ballast! It is the one OPTION that should not be an option as bad as that boat needs ballast up front. Not meaning to bag on you, but now your going to fill up that space anyway with weight that you are going to have to tow around. What's the logic?

I use lead under the front seats, along the side, and in the trunk. 8 total 70 or 75lbs bars. 4 in the nose, 2 along the side, and 2 in the rear. The bars are about 14" long by 4" high by 4" wide. They are sealed in the stuff that looks like a spray-in truck/bed liner. I bought them from Pro Flight or some other company three seasons ago and have kept them when I trade boats; they are hard to find.

I suppose you could locate lead locally and have someone spray them. I leave these in the boat and never give them a second thought. I use the wedge, people, and tanks to make adjustments.

I have an '06 VLX too, but we have the front ballast.

We added another 300-400 lbs in addition to the front water tank, all in the nose. We do run another 800-900 lbs of water in the rear trunks and no wedge. But we used those pop-bags, they worked GREAT! Easy to move around when you need to, easy to take out if you need to.
