wetsounds question

So I know nothing about sound systems and electricity and stuff.

I have a pair (2) pro485s. I read somewhere that they need around 300 RMS or so. I have these amps on hand:

RMS Power @ 4 ohms 250 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 2 ohms 500 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 1 ohm 1000 watts x 1 channels

Will either one of these work? I dont think the lightning is bridgeable so if I hook up each 485 individually at 4 ohms to the amp, they will be getting 250 watts each right?

I would use the lightning monoblock. Run one wire thru tower to first 485, than parallel (positive to positive, negative to negative) to the other 485. This will present a 2 ohm load at the amp giving you 250 rms to each 485. And yes they call for 300rms each.

The monoblock is not a fullrange amplifier so that is eliminated. The other amplifier will definitely work in the very short term as you will be seriously under-powered and that amplifier will struggle from a thermal standpoint as hard as you will have to drive it.

IF you are not wanting to spend much how about this amp. Full range class D and 450 watts to each 485 when bridged. Also runs in the 200-250 range.

I have heard solid things about the PPI amp above. Not a bad choice for the price but I would buy it from an authorized dealer.

By not being full range you mean that its more for pushing a subwoofer than speakers?

How should I hook it up to the kenwood? Originally I had the stock roswell speakers connected to channel A on the amp and a subwoofer on channel B (bridged). Channel A has two sets of wires running through the tower, one for each side. Do I need to bridge channel A and run the speakers in parallel or should I just hook them up directly to the amp?

If I need to buy another amp, I'm not scared of spending the right amount for a good one. I was just kinda hoping I could get away with not having to spend the money and using what I had laying around.

yes, those lighting amps are sub only amps. The freq response is 50Hz to 250 HZ only and low pass only.

If you plan on doing it now, i would highly suggest getting a new amp. the 485 like power and the more you give them the happier you will be.

HT-4 is bare min i would go. Bridged does 300x2.

SYN-4 is optimum and our number one set up on a pair of 485's. We have some guys take it to the extreme and run dual SYN-2 to gain the added headroom

But most run the SYN-4 on the 485 pair.

That kenwood is a 4 ch. Same as the HT-4 or SYN-4.

So either way you will be bridging the amps into 2 ch mode. So each speaker will be on its own side bridged.

Page 6 on our SYN-4 manual shows a SYN-4 bridged on a pair of 485's. Pge 11 on the HT-4 manual

Sounds like a syn4 is going to be my best bet then. I'll have to break the piggy bank and order one. Not entirely sure I want to buy 2 syn2 amps.

Raf - if you are willing to spend a little then the Syn 4 is perfectly alligned with your tower speakers. You will absolutely love it!

I made the assumption that you did not want to spend a little dough on the amp....I shuold have asked instead!

I have come to the conclusion that you get what you pay for. I just wanted to avoid spending money all together if one of my amps would work.

Anyone have any of those rubber inserts for the bulky old square style clamps? My clamps didnt have them and my tower is 1 3/4" i believe.
