we dont have any pics, but we went out on the Rock River in Northern IL last weekend. Water was 43* and air was 55-60 (boat's air thermometer may have been broken, but that water temp we all agreed was correct!!) we all 3/2 full suited it and it was not terribly bad except for your hands. they did feel as if they would simply break off. other than that not too shabby for 11/22 in (nearly) the great white north. Thanks Brett for heated boat storage!

Alright I have to give all thanks to David for not only the invite but the sick ass camera set up to take these pics. David has posted a ton more on my site at www.dftrdownfortheride.ning.com

Tom ~~ You won't find me in nothing but a drysuit with that cold of water. Since the drysuit it's so much better getting back in the boat and being mostly dry. Heck I never got my hat wet in the pics.

Thanks Vince, my buddie David had his camera dialed this day. Funny you say about the CIE sticker, I'm picking up a board sponser tomorrow and will need more sticks. Time to hit the CIE boys up...

Shima ~~ Yep, been talking with the Wakeology guys and they have asked if I would join their team. I'm meeting up with them today to get the board and talk with em a little more. Lakes need to stay un frozen so we can get out and throw a session on the new board.

Fortunately, it seems as though cooler weather on the Delta makes you tweak out every grab to the fullest extent. Great shots.

downfortheride, its hard to tell by the pictures, are you sliding on top of solid ice with just a little water on it, or is it broken up into chunks? I want to do this when our ponds freeze over but Im not exactly sure how itll work; whether its solid ice sliding, or jibbing ice chunks, etc.
Old     (downfortheride)      Join Date: Jun 2005 Location: SLC, UT 5600'       12-06-2009, 7:15 PM Reply
Travis ~~ That first shot is Money, can't wait to get out and give that grab a try!

Adam ~~ It was solid ice and we dug out the top layer to the water. I would to have a safe plan if somebody goes in and it's a good idea to wear a drysuit just in case. That day I went in to my waist falling through thin ice. Be careful...

Travis, what is that grab called? first time to see it i think

Thanks Josh!

KDuff, to be honest I don't know what it technically is called, haha. As far as I know it's just a roast beef variation, but if someone else has something else to call it, then by all means.

I believe that is called a chicken salad grab. (same as roast beef, but hand turned inwards)

so what are you guys doing when it comes to winterizing the boat? rewinterizing each day out? keep it in a heated garage?

i guess i don't know that much about boats, especially in this case (don't have one anyway). 'course i am too much of a pansy for this and cant even follow the "100 degree rule". pathetic living in powell eh?

Alright here are a couple of pic of the nice day on the water. It was crazy to see the ice on the bindings and for my second set I had to dip the board for quite awhile so I could wrench down on the laces. Then I go and break my fin Jibbing the ice...

Thanks Jeff and Walt!

What an amazing experience it's been to come down for Christmas and do some riding when there's 2' of ice back home.

Trunking it with a heater top was brisk but compared to the 10ish temps I left at home I'll take it!!!

TFD ~~ Way to throw down in the cold temps, thanks for the pics...

Vision ~~ We would give a body part to have them temps right now. Lakes are about froze over and high's in the 20 here in UT. We'll have to see what we come up with in a ice or another winter session in 2010. Thanks for posting up!
