Im thinking of conecting some plastice soap drums (55 gal) together to make a simple slider. I am thinking that I can just slide on the drums like pvc. I was thinking it would be about 4 drumms, maybe 12-16ft. And floating them halfway out of the water about 10 inches from the water to the top of the drum. What do you think of this idea?

I dont think that would work. Your problem is connecting the drums. You need to mention how your going to connect them. If you plan on glueing them edge on edge, then you need some serious stuff. You might not realize how much force will be on one end of the drum when you hit it, forcing the other end to break away from the other drum.

Im using plastic soap drums, but im using them to float the slider. Im building the frame around the drums and then building the frame up to a point and adding TRex, a type of wood/plastic composit, to the top. Just a simple slider.

does anyone have an idea on how to conect them? I was thinking of bolting them together with a home-made bracket. Just a flat piece of metal with two holes in it, one on each end that I could bolt to the two drums where they conect. maybe one braket like this on each side. As for bolting somthing to the inside of the drum, I could cut a whole in it to acces the bolt, then seal it up somehow. Im thinking duct tape to seal it up.

Does'nt sound like this is going to work. I've built a few sliders and this sounds like a bad idea. You need a top surface so that the barrels don't move. and even then they are going to roll. If it works let me know. Until then be careful. Put a helmet on.

you forgot about one important thing, the lips on the drums. they're huge and you will catch your edge on them no matter how you connect the drums
