The gauges on my 99xstar 205 are not working this year. I'm guessing it is a circuit that is not working, but unsure of which circuit controls the gauges. Does anyone know?

Thanks

Do a search on here

I think there were problems with the electonic module under the dash getting water in it from the speedo pickups.

I would be money that your MDC box is busted. I have a 01 X-Star that uses the same type of controler. But to make sure I need a bit more information.

Are all the gauges not working Fuel, Oil, etc?

If so look under the dash your will find a black box that has 2 connections that look much like stereo connections it also has a area where the spedeo tubes connect. What happens here in Minnesota is that the speedo tube freeze over the winter and the cause the MDC box to crack and fill with water. I would bet money thats what happened to your boat. Call Midwest they probably have on in stock. They run around $160. I take mine out every winter so that doesnt happen. Only took me burn through 3 of them before I got smart and started taking it out.

Good luck let me know if that was the problem.

Thanks Andy. That's my dad that started it off about the gauges. I'm pretty sure we've replaced the MDC once before, so taking it out for the 'ber' months will be common practice going forward. I'm planning on heading into Midwest tonight to discuss as well as pick up some PWT tickets.

Yeah, it is all the gauges. I'll let you know how it shakes down.

Thanks again,

Jeff

is this an issue with the 02 X-stars too? I should probably remove it if so, it gets a little on the cool side here in Wisconsin over the winters too.

Andy's right...I have a 99 Xstar too and all the gages went out...the MDC unit was to blame. apparently water gets in the pickup lines, then after a freeze cracks the plastic near the MDC box and lets the water get into the unit

I think mine was around $180-$200.

When you install the new one, blow out the pickup lines with some compressed air and see if water comes out. Then hook up the speedo tubes to the unit.

Here you can see a coffee table covered with muddy water and a soaked paper towel full of the water once I cracked open the old unit. You can also see the corrosion that was taking place inside the unit.
