It's gorgeous there. There is so many good places to ride. They have their own Facebook page that is updated with lake levels and pictures fairly regularly. Absolutely the best lake there is in California.

I just crossed over it. It is looking better than last year. Saw some info on the news while I was there that they were optimistic. They are getting rain and good snow pack. It was like 45% if I remember correctly and target is 75%. Once snow pack melts it should be pretty good. Again, this is just off memory from the news report I saw, but it is looking better than last year for sure.

Mike,

with the water level looking good already there's probably going to be more people down there than in years passes. Typically that whole area around antlers/sugarloaf/salt creek/beehive is slammed with people. Spend a little extra time on the gas and get away from that area. It's huge.....and there are plenty of places to go but people always seem to stack up in the same couple places. It's awesome there and is our usual season opener spot on Memorial Day.

Made my first trip last year. Everybody asked me if there was enough water to even launch a boat! It was almost 300' deep in some of the main channels. I know it was way down from historic levels but still plenty. We went the first week of October. Since it was considered off season there was nobody on the water. I think we only saw one other boat boarding. A few bass fishing boats. Weather was still about 80*. Such a special place. We had a great time. I don't feel like I know enough to give advice but I'm jealous you're going. You will have a great time!!!

The guys from Silverthorn Resort were at the PDX Boat show- they expect it to be 90% full by Memorial Day. The best source for lake levels is www.shastalake.com. Going to be the best year they've seen in years.

Here's the best site for up to date water levels on Shasta and most of the other major California reservoirs...
