We love going to Cabo. 2:27 direct flight can't be beat. That being said, we haven't quite nailed it on our Hotel the last few times. I'm looking for suggestions on where to stay based on your great experience. I really like the mindlessness of all inclusives but I'd be willing to try a standard resort if it fit the bill. When we go we like to pretty much veg out and recharge (and party when WE want to). Here's our list of preferences:

Great pool/s (that doesn't feel like a LMFAO video)
Nice room
Good Mexican food
Good massages
Multiple bars
Close enough to town
Not a ton of kids (we have plenty of our own)

We've only been to "The Office" in town. Great food and drinks. Any restaurant/bar recommendations? If we don't go all inclusive, doesn't your drink bill go through the roof? We only go for 3/4 days and we want to come back relaxed and rejuvenated. Also I'm scouting out a resort to have my wife's 40th BDay at next year. Salud!

My choice would be Casa Dorada. It's actually right next to The Office. I prefer staying on Medano Beach since it's swimmable and to be close to restaurants and town. I've also stayed at Villa De Arco, which is nice but just a bit further down the beach.

The chief complaint with Casa Dorada seems to be the noise from the mango deck. Did you experience this? Or is it only a problem if your room is right next to it?

We inherited a couple timeshares in CABO, been going on & off for last 15 years. Just a heads up just in the last year we've seen a jump in price, & rumor is its even worse from a couple of my buddies who just got back.. They just instituted a new tax (f/11 to 16%) & it's being noticed on the pricing - what used to be a cheap vacation is now getting pretty close to US/SD prices... We still love it, due to the memories over the years but not the cheap vacay it used to be

If you're not aware of the Voucher Program it cant be beat. We have been using VOUCHERS the last several years (5 +), they are 35-60% off menu prices for activities, food, tours, booze, dinning, etc - check out the goods. http://www.loscabosguide.com/discount.htm

The best part is they are not only are they good for booze, they are also 100% refundable if not used!

Man that sucks about the price increase. But overall, time is money and you lose 2 days traveling to Cancun and back so Cabo it is. We booked our flights for Sept. and they were $288 round trip. I appreciate the recommendations. You're the second person who's recommended the vouchers to me. That makes the idea of not choosing an all inclusive easier to swallow.

What's ur hotel budget?

I used to stay at the ME...but the club at nite is too loud. they have good pool parties on the weekends...and No kids

I also use the vouchers...have been for 4-5 years???

I've been going 2-4 times a year the last few years.

I've had no issues with noise staying at Casa Dorada.

if you dont' mind not being on the beach, but right across fromt the beach, check out the bahia hotel. Great price, awesome restaruant. across the st. from Casa dorada

I'm back down there in two weeks

I was just in cabo for memorial day.... the exchange rate is really in our favor this year. 13-1 at most places. any tax increase ( I didnt' ever notice it???) but any tax increase was netted by the favorable exhacnge rate. I actually thought it was cheaper this year than the previous few years...

Cabo is still cheap IMO. And I have to pay $700 ish per ticket RT.

I paid for 8 people to party thier faces off ( ording bottles of champagne and liqour) + beer/ other drinks and eat all day at the ME ( pool bed service) my total bill was abt $1400...with tip, pretty cheap if u ask me.

Also the newer hacienda hotel/resort is really nice, but a pit pricey $500+/nite. The restaruarnt there is really good too.

I've stayed at pueblo bonito sunset, rose, and Wyndham at the marina. Sunset is by far the nicest (check out the skypool), but it is pricey and on the other side of the mountain from the marina. This makes it very quiet, and no vendors hassling you. Rose is a good compromise, but dated and in the tourist trap. Wyndham is downright dirty, but it worked for us my last trip ( all guys fishing trip). I suggest pueblo bonito sunset.

If you want to check out something truly special, stay a night or two (or more if it's in the budget) at Capella Pedregal. It's one of the top resorts in the world. The service will make you feel like a king. The finest resort experience that I've ever had.

Adam- I'm looking in the $2-400 a night range. Your $1400 bill for 8 people puts it in perspective. In Vegas that would have been 5-6k. Bahia looks nice for a couples retreat. Casa Dorada looks great for my wife's 40th with friends.

J-rod Orbitz has that Capella for $375 a night in a 850sq ft corner pool/ocean room. Hmmmmmm

Boarder 85. I'll give those ones a look.

All,

You can't beat the short flights from most places, from Nor Cal we used to pay $250-300, averaging around $450-500 lately - still not bad but considering you can fly across the country for close to the same now..

The deals are still to be had & far from Vegas prices but not nearly the cheap week/weekend getaway...

As far as Restaurants:
El Farallon @ Capella Pedegral, make Resv. hour before Sunset - Pricey but about the view/ambiance
http://www.opentable.com/el-farallon-capella-pedregal

Hacienda Cocina & Cantina - good food, good view
http://haciendacocina.com/

Baja Brewing - Top of Cabo Villas - Go for the view & apps

Bahia is a great little spot @ a good price point, but off the beach if that's a concern. You could look @ renting from a TS owner off VRBO.com or Redweek. Casa Dorado is oen of the newer nicer hotels on a swimmable beach - the Pueblo Bonito & Capella places are both nice as well - on the pacific side ( non swimable beach ) however the pueblo properties offer regular shuttles to their sister resorts.

Hope that helps, we've got a crew of 6 leaving on the 26th~ toes in sand in beer in hand!

I'm definitely going to refer to this thread when we go in Sept. So what's everyone's trick for getting by the pushy folks in the airport right before you get outside? I fell for it the first time. Every time since we just walk right through them. I love how they say they need to see your passport.

^^^^

I need to find the card, but my group used a company for private security down there last time. Well worth the money...they know eveyone in Cabo ( the good guys...and the bad guys, lol) . They do carry....might be an issue for some.

Long story short, they will pick u up at the tarmack, grab your carry on's, walk u thru customs and have your bags ready in the car, waiting. it's part of their car service.

I have typically used brown's car service in the past, but switched to thme for this trip in next week.

Private Transportation is the way to go
$120-$200 RT dep on location & peeps
I've used Ceilito Lindo, Inside Los Cabos, & Airport Cabo

Adam - If you find that card post or PM me the data - depending on the damage we may have to hook that up~ thats my kinda service!

Adam- let me know if you remember the private security contact. That's interesting, especially for a big group. I'm in.

Aaron- ever since the first time in the shark tank we just go eyes forward. Thinking about getting some beats over ear headphones lol. I'll look into the private transport too. Thanks for the names.

Charlie- I know a couple people who like Riu. I think I'll have to stay there and at Casa Dorada to decide which one is best for a bday bash! It's the only scientific way to do it. Lol

I LOVE CABO!!
