I was on erikruck.com and noticed that Hyperlite is not on his sponsors list. Does anyone know what happened or have some insight?

his girlfriend caught him cheating and went after him w/ an electric guitar. since then, numerous girls have come forward to say that they too were romanced by ruck. ruck is now in sex addiction rehab.

ps. just a joke.

HAHAHAHAHAH UMALI RULES!!!

That would be interesting to see them let him go, a lot of years with a pro model and a boot none the less. I am going to do some snooping around on this one. He is still listed on Hyperlite as a team rider, but as we all know that means pretty much nothing.

Guess we'll just have to wait to findout. Its sad what this economy is doing

IDK if I would blame the Economy, a lot of riders that have left hyper have gone onto great company's not only as riders but as owners. I have a feeling that he wasn't dropped just chose to leave at the end of a contract (that is if he left at all).

there was just video out the last few months of him working on "his" new pro model prototype, which was a flex hybrid...... I think it was the 2.0 at the Projects vid

Umali's post made me bust out laughin in the middle of my office. A+

I love Ruck, he seems like an absolutely rad dude and I'd love to go to a show and have some drinks with the guy so don't take this the wrong way... but his stuff doesn't really sell and he hasn't landed a new trick in like 10 years. To me he's Hyperlite's answer for Colin Harrington and IMO, there is no comparison who does more for their company and who pushes more product.

one of the first to grab his mobes all the time, indy tantrum to BS360 which most people still can't do, and the soccer goal rail just to name a few. He stays true to himself

Ruck is still on Hyperlite according to Hypes website.

No idea on any of this but, not sure if he is even gone from HL, but I am seeing a lot of riders rock his audio boot.

Okay, I'll say it....Ruck maybe moving to Ronix?

No idea, just saw this thread and he is in pointless. Crazier things have happened.

Great rider, rad dude, hopefully this mystery will be solved soon.

Hard to say, I know at least one other pro who was on-board with Hype but is pretty much done riding, quitting the tour.....times are tough, sponsorships are getting harder and harder to come by
Old     (benjaminp)      Join Date: Nov 2008       03-02-2010, 3:29 PM Reply
I hear what Luker is saying, as much as I enjoy him on the Murr show, his part is the one I always end up skipping over because he doesnt seem to drop anything that new. The soccer goal jib was ok, but its essentially a flatbar, which is nothing new. Just a different context. It would be too bad if he got dropped though, and I hope he is just moving on to something bigger and better.

i really hope not, i cant picture ruck without hyperlite that would be crazy

Yes that is true. Him being on hype's website mean nothing what so ever. Hyperlite wouldnt remove him because he is still a face people put with hyperlite. You think Ruck when you hear Hyperlite, and you think Hyperlite when you hear Ruck. That sells product wether it be glasses, shorts, boards, or anything else. I cant say i disagree with anything here. You guys are right. Ruck is an amazing rider, and even a better guy. None-the-less, he's not the "poster child" type. He never has been and I respect that from him. Hes not the guy thats going to go out and make podium or top 5 at every stop, but hes consistant and thats fine. In all honesty, and I hate to say it, but if I owned a board company and was dishin out a 5 figure salary (im assuming) Ruck would not be someone I would be paying that too. It was said earlier that he hasnt really done much latly, and that his product doesnt really sell. All of this I agree with. Ruck just isnt one of those "IT" guys. Not that it is a bad thing. I respect the hell out of the fact that he's maintain and do what hes done, and doing it his was and on his terms.
I could see him going to Ronix for sure. I think he would be a better fit there. Not sure why he didnt to begin with, since the rest of the Pointless guys minus Grubb did as well. Never the less if he is off of Hyperlite, Im sure its for the best and that he will be better for it. Maybe there needes to be thread about why Hyperlite keeps loosing its best riders. Maybe we shouldnt be asking why Hyperlite is quitting its riders, but why the riders are quiting Hyperlite..........Good Luck Ruck.

"Hyperlite wouldnt remove him because he is still a face people put with hyperlite."

If his contract IS terminated (through mutual agreement or otherwise) and it doesn't look like it's confirmed either way here, they will, as part of top-level sponsorhip contracts are rights of image use. These won't extend (much) beyond the end of a contract because if he's out, unless he's retiring (let's hope not!) any confusion an association with Hyp leads to would harm his chances of getting a sponsorship deal with another company.

Guess he doesn't post on here to confirm what's what!?

so putting a pole in the ground is innovative and pushing the sport but a soccer goal is just another flat bar?

why do people associate Pointless with Ronix? Or any brand for that matter
Old     (hyperlite)      Join Date: May 2009       03-03-2010, 6:49 AM Reply
so putting a pole in the ground is innovative and pushing the sport but a soccer goal is just another flat bar? What are you refering to here? Granted the soccer goal was different, but other riders are doing much more and getting less credit. (i.e. Nic Harlos/Ryan Doyle actual stair gap and Kyle Alberts and his bus jump.)

why do people associate Pointless with Ronix? Or any brand for that matter
Because thats how this industy works and any other industry for that matter. We all use association when it comes to brands. You see a nike golf ball/club you think Tiger Woods. You see the Jordan silouette, you think Mike. You see people and things and associate them with their products, acts, stories, anything. Thats what makes sales. The little guy whos idol is Parks B is going to buy everything that hes associated with. (Ronix,Fox,Spy etc), JD Webb (Hyperlite,Reef,Dragon,Rockwell). Danny Harf (Ronix,DBot,Spy,Monster,Billabong). It all works together......I wasnt saying the Pointless is Ronix or vice versa. I was just making and association with the majority of the riders that are the "pointless posse" are Ronix team riders. No offense to Shane, Grubb, Nick W, Watson, but thats how it is. All I was trying to say is that I think Ronix would seem to be a better fit for Erik

Haha, I just got called out. I personally just dont see the soccer goal as that innovative. The "pole in the ground" isnt done much in wakeboarding. Neither is riding a soccer goal, but it has the common equivalent of hitting a flatbar. There is no common equivalent to hitting a polejam in wakeboarding. So I think it pushes the sport more.
People associate Ronix with Pointless because three of the owners are members of Pointless.

wasn't necessarily calling ya out benj. I guess I find it odd that people find poles in the ground, sewers being ridden, canals trespassed as innovative and great for the sport, but then say that Ruck hasn't done anything lately. Personally I feel the opposite, but we're all entitled to our own thoughts and opinions. Whenever I see Ruck at a Pro or major event he's actually been one of the nicest guys, and actually approaches people before they can even approach him.

Hyperlite -
I think that's the first time (at least as I've seen) anyone on here has acknowledged's Albert's bus jump. I can't agree with you more. Look at what those guys were throwing down, doing whatever they can to keep their sponsorships, while it seems others are just hanging out.
Don't get me wrong, Ruck is amazing, no doubt.

I also agree, why are so many amazing riders leaving Hype? I know Murray has been with them forever, and he continues to push things with the Murr show, the boarding school, hell, he was even up for trick of the year last year, but with Parks, Chad, Danny, and now Ruck gone.....makes me wonder where he'll be in the next 5 yrs.
(NOTE - Just to avoid any rumors starting - This is me wondering aloud, I haven't heard anything, nor do I know anything, just thoughts)

excuse my lack of knowledge about things in the wake world right now, but what pole are we talking about here? and what bus jump did alberts do?

The Alberts thing was really a shocker for me. He was rook of the year.....and then dropped! That doesn't seem right.

Agreed J-Rod. I ride at the same lake he grew up on quite a bit. Really surprised he got dropped

A-Dub, I understand your point. I guess what I mean by "innovation" is doing something new, different, or exciting, as opposed to pushing the sport in terms of amazing public relations (which I am sure Ruck does in his sleep). I kinda hope this is just a slip on Ruck's part in forgetting to list hyperlite or some temporary site problem, but if not, someone is going to score bigtime when they scoop him up.

"handle passions"
"A wake apart"
"The Bold and the Backside"
"General Handle-pass"
"Sex and the ski-school"
"The O.DUB." --- was trying for the OC
"The Delta Shore"

* I googled soap operas ... i didn't know this many off the top of my head... i swear.

I remember when I was a kid and I cared who rode for who, now it just feels creepy discussing a man's career. Big ups to Ruck and all he does, including, likely laughing at this thread.

I also noticed the riding was pretty mellow overall in that video... but I really liked it. It was refreshing to see some nice stylish 1's
Man everytime I watch Rusty ride he looks like he should be playing college football or something. The guy is a rock that ca shred for sure.
