I've always towed "long distance" with and empty boat gas tank. The lake house is 120 miles away across the flat Texas north east. This time, it would be a major convenience to fill the boat up before we leave. I drive an '06 F250 diesel. The boat is a VLX on a tandem trailer. With this truck, do yall really think that my gas mileage will be affected by the full boat gas tank?
I can never remember if it's affected or effected.....

if so, it would be so minimal, that it wouldn't make a difference to me.... Some of the steps some people take to save a few pennies, but add more headaches. Often times they actually spend more money doing it. I really love the people that drive across town to save $.05 per gallon, but drove and extra 20 miles to go and get it. Whatever floats your boat though....

The gas would weigh less than another male passenger in your car - I can't see that being a huge addition in cost... Agree with diggs - My wife is one of those people... drives me nuts. I'm a fan of convenience - if a gas station is easier to get in and out of, I am going to pay that 0.01 cents extra per gallon ... screw crossing 23 lanes of traffic....

Figure a 50 gallon tank w/ gas at about ~8lbs/gal = ~400 lbs. extra.

Boat (full of gas) + Gear + Trailer = ~5000 lbs.... the extra gas is peanuts in the scheme of things. Odds are you can make up the difference in gas by driving 5 mph slower and getting better mpgs that way

People in my town line up 3 deep and wait while idling at RaceTrack for gas even when it's only 1 cent cheaper than the Exxon station 100 yards away on the same side of the highway.

Gas weighs about 6.6 lbs/gal so the 50 gal of fuel will be about 335 lbs

It not like your pushing your truck with an extra 300#. If you were pulling with a 4Runner I would say it may be worth it.

Not even in the slightest... Your truck is laughing at you right now. LOL!

I never worry about the difference. We're only talking a few hundred pounds at most. My truck + boat weighs in around 11,000 lbs. 10 MPG at 70 MPH, never noticed much fluctuation. It is what it is.

the money saved by filling the boat up near the house where the gas is cheap way outweighs tthe loss of a MPG in my gasser v8. On the way to Powell(8 hours for me) we tow empty and fill at the last interstate option(cheapest) about 2 hours from the ramp

I always tow gassed up when we go to Bullards, which entails towing over Donner Pass (over 7000'). Of course I tow with a gasser, so I can't speak directly to how your rig would handle it.
