So I put our boat up for sale on craigslist and I have had three different 'firms' for lack of a better word calling asking if they can post it up on their site or get me in touch with their client for a fee. Is this normal and can I stymy this by some verbage in my ad?

Every other boat I have sold was less than 3K so maybe they werent interested.

What are these folks about, has anyone used them and did it work out? One was PopYachts, another was called once driven.

I'm certainly not desparate to sell but seems like a scam or a transfer your money into my Nigerianbank account and I'll refund you plus 4,000bucks kind of deal. If it's a decent deal I wouldn't be opposed to using since all of a sudden there's 5 boats like mine in my local market for about the same price so a sale is going to be tough in reality.

Google Pop Yachts. I have read threads on this before, nothing good has come from those engagements. I would tune out the noise, and only deal with local if possible.

Don't pay anyone to "list" or try to sell your boat. They get the money and post your boat, but after they have your money no real effort is made after that to sell.

My friend listed his boat with Popyachts and they actually sold it (a 10 year old centurion direct drive for 24k).I gave them a shot, no leads. They did however send a photographer who took 100+ photos and posted a 5 minute youtube video of the listing, for no charge. I ended up selling it myself, but used their photos and video. Their fee works by asking what YOU want for your boat, and they just add whatever their desired fee is onto your amount. So if you want 30k and they sell it for 35k, they pocket the 5k. If it doesn't sell, they don't get paid, so whats the harm?

Sold my boat recently using CL, my god the **** you get is crazy! Now I have my truck up for sale and scammers and companies are through the roof. Just had a guy call and ask to take over payments for 2 months then will send me a check for $2,000 over my asking price... I wasn't so nice to him!
