I'm a member of the club....Big White + Tail steeze put me out for the year. (See profile pic). My Dr. said this morning he was confident my ACL was done as well as partial MCL and possible Meniscus damage. MRI to confirm on Monday :-(

So bummed.

Feel your pain too bro. Just got mine repaired last summer and tore it again 2 months ago. Definitely take it easy with the recovery. No need to push to get back in 6 months like I did. Just take your time and rehab it like it’s your job.

It sucks but the question is "was the picture worth it?"

There's always driving boat and coaching to help keep you in the fighting spirit!

Driving and filming will be my hobbies over the summer!

That picture was taken earlier in the day... I had thrown that thing prolly 6 times with no problems and that random one just popped it. Lame-o

Thanks for the love from all ;)

That's a bummer. The season just got started here too. I haven't been able to go out yet because of surgery and it's been killing me. Heal up and follow the doc's orders.

Sorry to hear bro I tore my ACL and had miniscus damage last May. Rehab that sh$t and make sure you don't get drunk and do stupid sh$t like roll around with a girl to hard in the grass like 4months after surgery. :-) I rode in aug though and just cut around and sh$t no jumping. you'll be back in no time. good luck!

DUDE, i am soooooo sorry to hear that. Right in the beginning of the season geez man. Damn big white, that's the reason my right knee and this is a quote from the doctor "looks like a 75 year old man with a history of long distance running".
Feel better man, just rehab as hard as you can.

sounds like your lucky you didn't get a tibial plateau fracture with that....best of luck with the recovery.

How long had you wakeboarded during the session? Reason I am asking is that we find injuries and accidents tend to creep into our riding after about 10-15 min.
However I am sure you can totally screw yourself up first thing.

Damn I hate to hear this. Crack in femur? what it a stress crack? Must have been a pretty rough landing.

I am 7 months post surgery and still have significantly smaller muscles in the leg of my repaired knee. I am only working out 2 times a week now and riding at least once. I feel I should slow it down on the water even more so as to not tear it again.

How many people have torn the same leg from trying to come back to quickly or riding when not totally healed?

I had been riding all day at the park. It happened about 3pm (park opens at 11).

From everything I've heard, after 6 months the only problems most guys have are in their noggin. After you are cleared...you are cleared, ride hard. My buddy Alex had his done last season and is back full force, watched him land a HS BS 7 on Tuesday.

Did this happen during Wake Games?! Because I saw a guy bust his knee off the kicker at Odub when I was walking to the event... If that was you... I'm so so sorry! Looked so gnarly I felt horrible for you!

That was me ;)

I was there all day and sat and filmed for my crew after... I don't remember seeing anybody else go down.

Yeah, I was walking to the event exactly when that happened. We all heard you screaming and instantly knew what happened.... ouchies!!!! Sucks that your season is f'd. But I'm glad you're ok now!

Welcome to the club Luker.

Sorry you had to join it.

My only real advice is make sure you seek out a sports specific ortho and re-hab center. You want someone who understands you want to get back to full activity. Also Re-hab hard. Don't overly push it but make sure everyday your doing exercises. The harder you work at re-hab the better you'll be in the long run.

Best Wishes

David is right .....most people get the rehab for the general population....make sure you tell them your a world class athlete and that you need to get back on the fast track and the best treatments.

Really its no joke I once had a cast put on in a hospital for a dislocated knee cap with possible mcl damage. 2 days later I went and saw a specialist who treated the Toronto Maple leafs (pro hockey team) He cut the cast off and gave me a tensor bandage.....and told me that athletes get different treatment than the general population, at the time I was in a phys-ed program, so needed to get back fast, but even 2 days in a cast shrunk my leg..... this was 20 years ago...but from any of my recent injuries I have noticed most physio is geared towards "normal" people.

once your healed come back easy....but like was said above...literally forget about it.

I can't agree more. It is critical that you educate doctors, PTs and anyone else you are working with about the demands of the sport and your intentions to continue at the same level. More times than not, they don't understand the unnatural forces that certain sports have on your knees. Show them video or photos, explain double-ups and rails, landing something big in the choppy flats, etc. Basically, most of them probably think of wakeboarding as something similar to waterskiing - just cruising behind a boat. The majority of their patients get hurt on a fluke deal, like just walking down stairs etc. Make sure they understand the sport so you don't get get treated the same way as their typical patient. As you have read and seen, there is an extremely high instance on knee injuries in wakeboarding - and it is definitely for a reason - the sport is gnarly and puts very unnatural forces on your knees. Make sure they understand that and make sure they understand that you are still going to be doing it.

This is the same guy that did my buddy Alex's last year. Alex rides Jr. Men's and FULLY educated the Doc on what goes down. I made sure he understood that I wanted to be 100% back to "aggressive" riding when this is all said and done. He is well aware of the situation.... my wife on the other hand thinks I'm an idiot ;)

On another note... he gave Alex a Brine (i think) knee brace, which Alex really likes, but I would rather get the CTI. I know the doctors office has some type of relationship with Brine because I saw one of the other docs carrying a Brine duffel bag out of the office during one of my visits. I'm wondering how much sh*t I'm going to catch for requesting a different brace.

Brett, I see your username and wonder if you might be able to lend some insight into how the best way to go about this is... obviously it has to get approved and covered by insurance which is priority #1.

Any help is appreciated.

I cant agree more with David. Do your PT exercises everyday no matter what. Im at 3.5 months post-op and smoking other people who are way farther out than me.

The best advice I can give is: get a cheap stationary bike for at home use. It will help keep range of motion fluid pre-op and then it will really help post-op.

Oh, and def. show your PT a video of your riding. Once mine saw how I ride and land, he bumped up my work-out hard and now Im pretty much only doing wake specific strengthening and balance stuff.

Good luck! The first month sucks but gets better quick after that.
