Looks like a big worm to me, but like you said with the other hand. His riding is amazing, several times in the video he would tweak or lay out a trick and I thought, that looked really cool and unique. Later in the video, he would do it switch with the same body language. Impressive.

Yeah it almost looks like the film has been mirrored, except the background changes, very impressive.

all 3 videos are sick. Matt has to be one of the most underrated wakeboarders

1. toeside frontside 9s regular and switch, heelside frontside 9 regular and switch
2. hoochy over a boat
3.009 (wasnt landed in the video, but just a rediculous trick)

I wonder if he's been trying any more 10s

Gratuitous use of slow motion made the vid annoying. Matching cuts didn't work very well either. Made in movie maker?

Riding is brilliant though!

I guess you would call the trick a Diesel 540.

What's with the 'switch' tricks being mirrored video?
Old     (lfxstar)      Join Date: Jul 2001       04-01-2009, 4:41 AM Reply
That trick definitely isn't named yet but is sick. I remember Shapiro used to do backhand whirlys and they were called spiderman's.

Chris, a diesel is a frontroll with overhead 3 right? But is it with the front hand or back hand? That trick he did was some damn fine rope control but I personally like the looks of a big worm better, BUT PROPS on that trick. I could definitely never do one, especially after watching Rhett then my friend Ben learn them and Ben hitting his balls so hard that he ended up having to get a right testicular implant!! He didn't do Big Worms after that.

Kyle, I think you are thinking of Ricky G with the spiderman. He used to do those all the time. Darin used to do a wrapped mobydick thing that was called a wrecking ball.

Good ole Smith Lake!

I've seen that attempt, pretty rediculous, I was just wondering if he's tried any since

brinks, Darin did them too...I think I remember seeing one in Shaft
Old     (brinks)      Join Date: Mar 2002       04-01-2009, 7:20 PM Reply
Adam,
In Shaft I am almost positive it was the wrecking ball. Almost as soon as he is in the air the two tricks look identical. I don't ever remember seeing Darin do a back hand whirly. Not that I don't think he can do one if he tried. However Ricky was the first one to do the Spider Man.

I thought it was called iron cross?

Iron cross and wrecking ball are the same trick, though Darin called it an iron cross because of the way he would lay out during it.

Like brinks, I've never seen Darin do a spiderman. In those older video parts they were always wrecking balls(iron cross) he did. Think he did them in both Switch 22 and Shaft.

Holding on that long and getting back up was pretty ridiculous.

yeah, stephen, I was wondering the same thing. I didn't really like it as I wasn't sure if it was mirrored and if was riding switch or regular and what not
Old    gotwake123            04-02-2009, 10:34 AM Reply
He is a great rider but it looks like the editor just took a bunch of regular tricks and mirrored some of them. Idk maybe the editor just thought it looked cool not trying to make it look like he can throw regular and switch heel and toe 9's. Maybe Matt can do them but they look the same.

Walt Hayes, I thought that lake looked familiar. I saw them out on the water last year. There was a picture of them on the cover of Smith Lake Living from one of Tyler's videos, the one Tyler uses as his vimeo avatar. I love Smith Lake, especially the Brushy Creek and Clear Creek areas. I can't wait to get back out there this year.

Matt can do regular and switch 7's, 9's, Petes, Moby's, Whirlies, and just about evey other trick you can list. I have watched him ride numerous times in contest and a few times behind my boat.

Matt is a good friend and an amazing rider. He had and still has the potential to compete on the pro tour, unfortunately like many of us, he got busy with other things in life. College, girlfriend, living in Alabama and not in Orlando, etc. I don't want to speak for him, but I think he would agree. He had a sick video section in "Downside UP" a couple of years back: http://www.boardflix.com/trailers/downside.mov
