How does the plat. absolute ride compared to say a LF team? I like my team, but i want to try different boards.

Yeah, like Mike said, most people who own or have ridden the Absolute have liked it from what I've seen. I sure love mine. And 299 for a '05 seems like a good deal.

I rode an 04 Absolute Platinum for a while and loved it. Tried the Team twice this year and hated it. Go for the CWB.

I got to ride the 06' Absolute Platinum this afternoon. I'm still a beginner, but that is by far the best board I have ever been on. I liked it much better than the Premier I have been riding. I will definitely be picking one up before next season.

Hey Tim...sounds like you made it out with Evan today, because that board was in my locker!

Ummmmmm.....I meant I rode the 05' Absolute Platinum. There was no '06 on the boat yesterday....

Paul... That kinda surprises me. I've ridden a ton of boards and liked a lot of them, but I for sure think the Absolute is one of my favorites. Platinum or Foam core, they are both sick.

J-Rod, that's correct. It "WAS" in your locker. He, he. I'm stealing that biatch. I dig the new Fuses, too. That boards got the biggest pop of anything I've ever ridden.
Old     (stephan)      Join Date: Nov 2002       10-17-2005, 9:24 AM Reply
The two boards are drastically different. The Absolute is a lot mellower especially with no middle fins. It will take you straight up off the top of the wake. The Team is more of a "into the flats" type of ride. I should have my 06 135 by the end of the week. I will let you know how it goes. I love new boards....

Evan, you get my message? We're riding tonight.

Awesome. I need to switch bindings tonight so I can actually give the 06 a decent try. The Fuse are a little tight on me.

jrod so you are now riding the 06 plat? its the same board as the 05 right?
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       10-18-2005, 8:35 AM Reply
We (Evan, Allen, and I) have a 2006 141 Platinum. I have't been riding it because of a binding situation. Attached is a pair of 2006 Fuse bindings which they love but they are too tight on me. Evan rides wide, Allen ride narrow, and I need different boots altogether. So I have avoided the binding switch game. I'm being VERY patient!

I spent some time on the 05 which is pretty much the same. I love it, but to be honest, I still love my 04 Platinum too. If they made a Platinum Flame, I might be all about it.

Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       10-18-2005, 8:57 AM Reply
The base shape of the '06 isn't changed much. They added a swallow-ish shape to the tip and tail, but otherwise its the same.

I rode the '05 foam Absolute all year last year and liked it, but the first thing I noticed on the '06 is how much stiffer it is. Part of it may be the Platinum, but the top sheet is also re-designed adding more material to the center of the board and removing some from the tip and tail. The result is the same weight, but with a better flex pattern. Yeah, yeah, I know it sounds like crap, but ride one back to back with an '05 and you'll know what I'm talking about immediately.

I actually thought I rode the '05 and the '06 the same, but have had two different people at two different times tell me that my riding was bigger on the '06. Whatever.... I know, but give it a try for yourself.

The new Fuses' are sick, too. Can't wait to get our hands on some of the hinge tech Zeus'. The triple density foot bed is soo much better than the '05 foot bed.

Evan, have you been riding that board with or with out fins?
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       10-19-2005, 10:15 AM Reply
Everyone rides it without.
Old     (allen)      Join Date: Apr 2005       10-19-2005, 10:39 AM Reply
I have always had fins on every board and this board I ride with out fins and dig it. Loose when you want and it hooks up and is fast when you need it. All in all a very sick board.

oh, had a transcend that the inserts came out and also the core came out and cracked the skin. I am sure it was just a odd ball board.

i love my 05 plat....i still have an 04 lute which i havent ridden, but i still think my 03 plat that i snapped landed softer and had more pop, the o5 seems faster.

Squid, that's what I thought. You're going for an Absolute to start the winter off? Why not one of the new Platinum Transcend's with the speed base???
Old     (twakess)      Join Date: Mar 2002       10-19-2005, 1:47 PM Reply
I didn't like the pop on the transcend it would send me up but not out and I think the absolute will still be faster.

The Absolute is a little faster.

I'm so happy, my board is in the mail. I'm shaking like a dog $#!ttin peach seeds. Hopefully it'll get her before Friday.

Well she hath arrived. Now I'm really stoked. My very first Platinum!! Two years of foamies and now i get to step it up!! I'll be riding Friday & Saturday & I'll give it a review. Damn this board looks tight!!!

Yeah man, the platy is sick. I was never the alternative core kind of guy until I finally rode the '06 Platinum. It's actually a lot lighter and stiffer. Love the pop. Stephan, what kind of bindings are you riding this year?

Pretty sure the '06 Absolute and Fuses' aren't getting returned. He, he, sorry CM.....

Evan, how do you like the Fuse bindings?
Old     (stephan)      Join Date: Nov 2002       10-20-2005, 12:00 PM Reply
I'm torn between the Zeus and the Fuse. I've tried the Zeus but not the Fuse. I was under the impression that the Fuse was more flexible than the Zeus. So I was leaning towards that. I've been riding the Zeus for two years & am not sure which one to go for.
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       10-20-2005, 1:00 PM Reply
Heavy. I beleive it is the opposite. Fuse is the stiff boot.
Old     (antbug)      Join Date: Jul 2004       10-20-2005, 1:05 PM Reply
yeah Steve the boots that Bates had.... fuse was really stiff.
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       10-20-2005, 1:12 PM Reply
I dig the Fuse's. I would say that they are pretty stiff compared to the '05 Zeus', but I like it. They have two rubber "straps" that cross over the top of your ankle that stiffen them up quite a bit. I would say they most closely resemble the fit of the LF Transits with a slightly denser footbed.

My favorite part about them was how easy they are for me to get back into in the water after I get ripped out. I definitely can get them on with just water.

I think they are my binding choice of the year, but I am still going to check out the Deuce and the Zeus' before I make up my mind. Actually what it really comes do to is which boots match the board I pick. I'm really not too choosy, although I'd say I am pickier about bindings than boards.

How does the absolute and the substance compare?

Go back to work SUCKA!!!! While your off on your honeymoon boffin' your old lady we'll be sodomizing your new bindings. He, he, he...

Absolute and Substance are both cool boards. I rode the Substance most of the year last year. The Substance is a little bit tighter riding (even with the fins out). It makes you kinda lazy edging in as you can kinda rely on its hold rather than proper edging technique. They both have a ton of pop. I say the Absolute has just a bit more and it is a little less abrupt. IMO the landings are the only part that really kill the Substance. I thought it landed really hard compared to the Absolute. All in all you can't go wrong either way. The Substance is my second favorite board...

Ok gents I got my first ride on the new Platy today. I've never ridden a Platinum before and hot damn that thing kicks HARD!!! I felt that the edge was a lot more precise on this years shape and the rails appear to be thinner. It seemed just a touch faster than last years. I couldn't believe how light & alive the board felt under my feet. It is different getting that extra kick and I can't wait to get used to it. It is official I am in love.

Is it just me or are the CWB boards waaaay over priced? I would love to get a platinum package but wow 800 bucks is a lot of gas.
Old     (stephan)      Join Date: Nov 2002       10-23-2005, 1:14 PM Reply
Get last years if its too much. If you compare exotic core boards the Platinum is pretty well priced. Granted LF & Hyperlite have gotten away from their higher end processes. Compare the foam decks and they are similar. No one else has a sick core like the Platinum and after riding this weekend I can say it is the sickest thing ever. It has so much pop and is so light and snappy on & above the water.
Old     (mjmurphy53711)      Join Date: Mar 2004       10-23-2005, 6:03 PM Reply
so the 06 is even faster than the 05, not sure if im gonna dig that.....i liked the slower 03 best.

I would say it is a little faster. Its not so much faster on the water as it is in edging. The rails seem a little thinner and thus quicker to sink and edge. It could be the difference between a Platinum and my old foam version. I am so happy to get to ride this board.
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       10-24-2005, 1:21 PM Reply
I thought the '06 was really similar to the '05. The biggest difference comes from the change to Platinum. You can really feel the board is stiffer. When you edge in hard it just accelerates a lot faster. Mellow edge and it feels the same. I agree with Stephan: the '06 Platinum pops hard.

Mike: I went back to the roots over the weekend and rode the '02 shape and totally dug it. I may just have to get on the Pure next year. That board still works killer. The best part about CWB is that they make the older shapes continually available.
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       10-24-2005, 1:30 PM Reply
Mike, you thought the 03 was slower than the 05?

I thought the 03/04 was faster than the new design.
Old     (mjmurphy53711)      Join Date: Mar 2004       10-24-2005, 3:33 PM Reply
slower in the sense that you could really lean your heels into the edging yes....dont get me wrong, i love my 05 too, but i also thought the 03 landed softer.

my 04 is on ebay.....

thats a decent price, id demo it first....and maybe consider a three stage with your boat....but everyone i know that has that board, loves that board.
Old     (ak4life)      Join Date: Nov 2003       10-24-2005, 6:08 PM Reply
IMO they're very different boards. The Team is much stickier than the Absolute since the Absolute got relatively small molded fins while the Team got big cupped side fins and a huge center fin. Absolute is an aggressive 3-stage while the Team is coninuous with less rocker. Never ridden the Substance, but would assume it'd be more similar to the Absolute that the Team.
Old     (twakess)      Join Date: Mar 2002       10-30-2005, 8:39 PM Reply
Well, I got to take mine for a spin today. Its has killer pop that dosn't kick you off axis like some 3 stage boards do. The landings are soft also I noticed like some 3 stage rocker boards when you go a little bigger than normal and land in the flats some boards will stop as and buck you off. It also seems be a faster board with not much drag. It will be Squids 06 board yes the whoring days are over. Besides if I stay on the board for a full season. My wife says I can got to FL for a week every year and she will pay for it. Gotta love her.

I'll believe it when I see it. See at Berryessa on something different. We should start a support group with a price of entry that will buy about 10 boards that we can continually rotate.

Actually though, that's a really easy board to like. I still haven't decided against riding it all year next year. I think I'll spend some time of the new Transcend with the speed base for a while.
