I found the 2018 Moomba model while surfing the web last night

Looks like a 23' Helix
17 passenger capacity

Someone must have found the page and had it pulled. The link no longer works, maybe in a couple of days. I believe the SC product is slated for a launch of 07/20 based upon rumblings on the Moomba forum.

Yeah, I bet the dealer that posted the listing got in some trouble.

I really like the look of the new boat and tower. If any of the rumors are true it has some really cool features. I think it's like anything new it takes a little time to grow on you but I really like it.

Sounds like them dates were from the rumor train and it's really set for early AUG coming from Skiers Choice themselves.

Marine Products in SLC, UT has a 2018 Max on their showroom floor right now. Saw it a couple of days ago. Pretty impressive looking! Again, just looks like a bigger version of the Helix. Would love to get a demo behind it soon as I was impressed with the Helix.

First teaser shot of the boat just got released on Moomba's social accounts. Nose looks like a Helix but bigger

Can't wait to hear feedback on the wake fully sacked out. I checked out the one at Marine Products and it seems like it will be a beast.

Moomba released their press release:

https://www.moomba.com/2018-updates

Can't wait to hear from people who get to ride it fully ballasted out. I saw the one at Marine Products and it looked like it had potential for a big wake.

My only concern is that it seemed like it might be underpowered for the high elevation lakes here in UT. For example, boat+ballast is 7500lbs, Throw in gear+gas+people, and you're around 8500lbs. Seems like a 550 might be needed in the future. I've read that the 440 doesn't have much on the 400, I might be wrong though.

Boat looks great. I would have probably pulled the trigger on a Mojo but the bow rise killed it for my wife. This thing looks to have that same issue. It's riding way nose high. I am 6ft tall and needed to almost stand behind the older mojo. Same seems to go here.

But man is Moombq killing it with their new designs and boats.

Here's the specs on it. https://crm.skierschoice.com/files/r...8.5x11_Max.pdf

Starting at $61,580 with 3,000 lbs of ballast, Fusion Stereo, and a tandem trailer.

This is my biggest concern when looking at boats. When I drive I don't use the booster seat ever and it's a pass or fail depending on the bow rise. So far I've had a 2016 Craz, 2016 Mojo, and a 2017 Helix and never had a problem with them sitting while boarding or surfing. Max does look like it's riding a little high but the real judge is driving and riding the boat.

I'm in the same boat here for us high elevation riders. I was actually surprised when I got a Mojo on plain with full MAX ballast and didn't use the launch system. I hope to get a decent demo on this max and for sure will have to use the launch to see how it does. Pretty stoked on this boat, now to see the real justice and get it to 23.5 mph and play with the wake.

How was the wakeboard wake? On the moomba forum some are claiming g23 stock size. What was your experience?

I was very impressed with the wake/wave but without actually riding it, I can't say for sure if it's G23 size or not. I will say that with full ballast and 17-18mph you had a very nice clean wake which most boats do not at that slow of speed. I was very impressed with that.

What's the deal with the tiny biminis they put on so many of these boats? Do people really not like shade? Seems like the manufactureres keep making them smaller.

Not sure the shade top is any smaller then on the previous A2 towers, I think it's the massive amount of boat that makes it look smaller though.

it looks small to me too, if its a 23ft boat it should have a proportionate amount of shade for its size. You can bet more than a couple of the 16/17 people it holds aren't going to want to hang in the sun all day. If it was mine id want equal parts shade they have up front also going to the rear. I think it would suit this size boat a lot better and function better.

I want to see the max in action but that picture seems like it would be hard to fit 12 people in that boat.

There are a few pics floating around of the MAX parked right next to a G and tied up together. It puts the size into perspective. The thing is huge and wave looks money. I just searched all over FB to find them, but could not. Someone has to have them. It was a G23 and MAX tied up together at a dock at an event. Anyone? Beuller? Anyone?

There it is. Pretty cool to see them parked next to each other. You can buy 2 of those for the price of a G!!!

Wow, that thing makes the G look small and looks like it's higher than the G in the back. No small boat for sure. Not really a fan of the bow however.

WOW! That pic by the G is crazy......Definitely excited to see some of the new boats at the ATL boat show this year....this MIGHT be the year we finally take the plunge and upgrade. In the previous pics I was under the impression it was like a MINI G, but that OBVIOUSLY not the case....im VERY surprised to see these side by sides.

And obviously the G has WAY higher end stuff, but to us commoners the MAX looks like a pretty decent option. NOt seeing many real world reviews on it though.

I believe that it was weighted with about 1200lbs over stock. Still plenty of room in the compartments.

I normally try to keep my posts constructive and I really like Moomba, Supra, and Skiers Choice but this boat is the flat out ugly. It does look like a 70's boat. Actually, it looks like a 70's boat and a deck boat were combined and all the worst looking parts of both were put into this boat. The front and rear look like they were designed and drawn by an unimaginative first grader with poor motor skills. As most vehicles are becoming more curved and aerodynamic looking, this boat goes the opposite direction with gusto. There are absolutely no curves. I hope this does not become a trend. I just cannot get over the ugly. It could be the greatest boat in the world with the greatest wake and I would not buy it.

Haha I hear you. For the people that like traditional lines, there is the Craz. That boat is an awesome performer and looks classic and clean. For people who like to be different and over the top, the Max is the boat for them.

I went on a demo this past weekend. My overall thought is it's a nice boat, and it has everything you want on a budget. The big WOW factor for me was the storage. Not just the rear lockers but under the side bench seats. I'm 6'3 230 and would have no problem climbing inside, crazy deep. I did get a chance to surf a set behind it, and was a little disappointed. We ran full stock 3k but it clearly needs another 1500-2k to make it comparable to a premium boat. My buddy commented he thought the wave was a little soft for running 11.5mph. As for the shape, i thought it was great, very similar look to the Tige RZX3. I'm going out again one of these days with my bags, so i'll take a few pics.

***I didn't see the wake at wakeboard speeds

Have you seen one in person? it's not that bad.... My only negative thing to say about aesthetics is it's flat in the back, looks unfinished. The G at least has a transition of some sort.

Moomba boats need weight to firm up the wake and get good push, nothing new. I am interested in seeing how much it takes to get a really firm push at the back of the wake..

Correction: every boat* needs weight?

What out there doesn’t need -basically- slammed in order to really shine?

Comes down to physics. It's a value boat, so it is naturally lighter than premium boats in the same size range. The Max is almost the exact same size as the Supra SA and using nearly the same hull, but weights 1000 pounds less. If you want it surf like that boat, you have to make it displace the same amount of water.

Shoot and even the SA (and my SE) need a good slamming to get the best results!

While I agree that there is no replacement for displacement, and that the energy a boat produces in its wave could be calculated by the amount the entire boat/hull was displacing, in practice, it doesn't work that way.

First, "push" or whatever you desire to call it is not directly correlated to that calculated energy mentioned above. It is something you perceive, and it is clear on some boats that energy propels you forward more, and on some boats it seems to propel you more to the side. Also, on some boats, you may have a curl at the back of the wave that gets in the way or hinders the push by grabbing your ankle and you have move away from the wave a bit. Some boats that works great because the push also seems to work a bit farther away from the wave, and on some boats if you move a way even a bit, wave bye bye to the boat.

So many factors make it a reality, that one boat with less displacement (even significantly) can have more power and a funner, more surf able wave than a boat with more total displacement.

There is another factor now with these surf system boats and I noticed this TREMENDOUSLY with the new Supra SL and the Max, after spending a year on our SE and then the year before on the RZX.

Supra/Moomba redesigned their surf systems and it makes a huge difference, I am finishing my review of the SL, and will go into more detail. Basically, the new system makes an even cleaner wake, especially on the goofy side and with LESS list.

With the SL, I took the stock boat, added 600 lbs of lead, and that wave was as big, funner, and had at least the same monster push of our SE. The SE and the SL are within 100 lbs of each other dry. On most days on the SE, including ballast and people and gear we displace approx 12-12.5k. When we tested the SL we had less people and less ballast. Adding up I would say we had 11-11.5k of displacement. We tested stock of 3500 lbs, did another session adding 600 lbs of lead, and had about 1100 lbs of people.

So with 1000 lbs less of displacement, how did we have as much power, fun, etc. Its just engineering. First of all, on the goofy side, with the SE we needed about 7 degrees of list to clean the wake. On the SL with the new Swell upgrade, we only needed 3.5-4 degrees of list. And if you surf a lot, you know 3+ degrees is a lot. That means we don't have to lose much or ANY opposite side weight. Its more efficient.

I surf on the regular side though, and I surfed stock without problem which is very difficult for me.

Now, about the max, the boat at the polar bear had I think 4500 pounds of total ballast. That wave was not quite as long, but it had all the power of the other supras. It was a great wave. My family would have NO problem using that boat full time and we would be happy with that wave, and with all of our friends. We are wake snobs, and that boat was great. Test it and see for yourself.

Here is a quick video we just did for the polar bear with the MAX in it.

Very informative post! Thank you! Looking forward to more info from Polar Bear as well.

This is the first time I seen a Oneil Boost drusuit with a zipper front. It has to be on backwards...

Hmmm...Interesting. Maybe I should wear mine that way, so that I don't have to have help zipping and unzipping. Or maybe it is a gender specific decision.

Personally I like the flat back on boats. I'd rather have the sun pad extend all the way back rather than waste that space for a transition. That's my take anyway, and don't even get me started on the stupid walk through on a lot of boats.

Is the base 400 motor enough to get this boat one plain at wakeboard speeds?

This will be the first test when I get my Max in the spring. Here in UT and boating around 5400' some engines have been a challenge. I was able to get a 2016 Mojo fully loaded up to speed with not a lot of struggle, the key is using the moomba launch feature.

Just bought mine on Saturday. 400 motor is plenty (especially with the upgraded torque prop). The centerplate is also an awesome feature to help plane out or lengthen the wave. I also upgraded to 1450 Enzo bags. I tested this and the T23 in the last two weeks. No comparison in the surf wave. Also, with 4 eight inch tower speakers and sub, upgraded Enzo bags, gator decking on floor and gunnels, and upgraded prop, I was out the door about $10k less than a T23.

I'm really interested to know how the wakeboard wake would compare to a T23 or A22...?

Wakeboard wake to wakeboard wake, they're very comparable in size and even shape with the last A22 I was behind. The Max feels a lot like a Supra SA, just slightly smaller with stock weight (the boat is lighter) and a little steeper. I rode behind one at a contest with some extra weight in it, and at 22.5 it was super clean and really big. One of the guys in the pro division stuck a backside 9 behind it too, so I'd say it's plenty of wake for us mortals.

That sounds really good. That's what I was hoping it'd be like. For me, the two boats I'm considering are the MAX and A22. I keep hearing how the A22 has a great wakeboard wake but I keep leaning towards the MAX. The most important thing for me though is the wakeboard wake, so even though I seem to like the MAX more I don't want to get into something that's not going to have as good of a wake...

I'm surprised to hear that a contest was pulled by a MAX. I don't think I've ever seen any Moomba pulling at a contest.

I was super impressed. We ran the Max fully sacked at ~20mph and was super impressed.
