OK really I was 39 last year when we got the boat. couldn't even go wake to wake at the beginning of the season. Have my heelside pretty well down most of the time now, but still have trouble clearing the wake toeside (I can if I shorten the line, but then it feels really remedial on the heelside).

What's reasonable? Am I ever going to get my toesides? Should I declare victory and go get an air chair?

You can get the toeside wake jump and much more! 40 is not too old to ride at a high level. It's all down to how healthy you are and how much you want it.

I think u should look into getting some pro coaching while you are still at this level. Take a few lessons, If u can get all the basics without any bad habits the skys !the limit

Toeside is all about body position and edge. There are drills for both at Learnwake.com.But i agree with Tommy get pro coaching.Someone who can look at what your form and skill level are and make suggestions from there.

By the way, judging by the size and body position of that tail grab u should be able to learn quite a bit. Your handle position is great here, nice and low. Also you have brought the board to your hand instead of reaching down for the grab. Very legit in my opinion!

Keep on rippin dude, air chairs are lame and 40 is the new 20! Much respect, oh, and tweak that grab out a littl bit. As for the dude rockin the railey, nice work!

My entire crew is over 40 and freak'n rips. There are plenty of guys in there 40's that are great with a ton of inverts and spins. The only limit is your mind. Keep pushing!

I started wakeboarding at 39 at am now approaching 56. You can pretty much do anything your have the cajones to try. I don't have a lot of cajones so I took it slow and at 56 still feel like I'm getting better. I remember someone saying something along the lines of... "if you are 30 (or 40) and at your best you didn't try hard enough when you were younger". I agree with that statement but not the suggestion that you should have tried harder. Take it easy, don't get hurt and you can be throwing flips and spins in your 60's. Things like toe w2ws, rolls, and spins are easily in your future.

Yeah! my dad at 52 is wakeboarding! he isn't learning tricks but he was determined to do it, and that should be example enough. + at a clinic i was just at, this dude was like 39 or 40ish and he was landing massive massive backrolls, so i say progress as far as you want to! =)

Let me just say, John (fly135) rips!

40 is not old! Its all about technique at this point, coaching and instruction will help but you're definitely young enough to learn all sorts of more advance tricks.

I taught my dad to wakeboard at 65.

I'm a little behind you (36) but I've had my best year ever riding. I've picked up 8 new inverts in the last year and still have few more things to get before the season is over.
Keep fit and ride a lot with someone who challenges you and there is no reason not to learn anything want.
