We are getting a dock put in next month with a permanent boat lift/roof and a 16x16ft sitting area next to this. We want to have a permanent speaker system of some sort but can't seem to decide on the best way. Does anyone have a setup on their dock that they are happy with?

I was thinking either using the old fashioned receiver/wired speakers that are waterproof but that would require building something to put the receiver in to protect it.

Or, I saw some bluetooth outdoor speakers. Anyone have experience with these?

I have a Bosch worksite radio that I Bluetooth my phone thru. It has really good sound quality for a boom box.

What is your power source, shore power? I don't have access to shore power so it was either generator or solar for me to power my 6k lift. A neighbor had his generator stolen and the Army Corps also gave him grief for the generator. I went with the solar option and got a 24v DC system with 100w panel in series. The dock I bought pre-owned was already wired up with a marine headunit with 4 outdoor speakers ran so my options are to either throw in a reducer and switch or put in an inverter. All of those options involve more time and headache. I spent hours trying to run fresh power and speaker wire through long stretches of flexible conduit to protect the wires from the elements and clean up bundles of wires. Unless you need a busy project, spend the money on a good rechargeable Bluetooth speaker and don't look back.

My plan for this summer will be one of the two following options:
* Stainless cabinet at the water's edge to hold the electrical for my boat lift, etc etc..... Cut hole and install gauge sized head unit and run it off AC power ... this should have bluetooth, aux, usb, etc etc .... then speaker wire down and out my conduit and to the location of my speakers.

Option 2 - Inside that stainless cabinet just getting a small 2 or 4 channel mini amp + chromecast audio (my wifi reaches the lake) .... then the same speaker setup around the beach area.

Speakers I plan on using Bose 151 outdoors.

How far is the dock from the house? We have a pair of Bose exterior wall mounted speakers on the house ran to a receiver inside that sounds incredible at the dock and in the water.

I've got one of these on my dock and another at my shop. Hooked them up the factory tower speakers off the boat. Pretty simple and it sounds great. I have a bad habit of not turning the one in shop off and its stayed powered up for weeks at time. No issues yet.
