buffing scratches on metal flake

I have a few light scuffs on the metal flake on my hull. It is from the boat rubbing against my fender on a boat slip.

I bought some star brite rubbing compound and was going to do it by hand first. Any idea if a rubbing compound is safe for metal flake?

Light scuffs that don't go through the clear coat should be an easy fix. It doesnt matter if its flake or solud. Doing it by hand? That's a different story... Buy a buffer. They're cheap and you don't need a super good one plus it'll do a much better job than doing it by hand. I've been using the same piece of junk Black and Decker buffer for 20 years just waiting for it to break and it won't. It still gets the job done and it wasn't more than $40-$50.

i do have a buffer, just wasnt sure if I should use, thinking it could be too aggressive and it is a very small area..

Okay just use a light foam pad first. You probably know that there's many different levels/grades to foam pads depending on what you're trying to achieve. Semi-aggressive to fine finishing. For super aggressive you gotta break out the wool of course.
