Description - 04 F-350 diesel automatic.

I got on the Interstate last night and accelerated as you normally do, and after getting into fourth gear at about 65mph the transmission did not want to go to fifth and was running really sluggish....any clue? Does anyone know of a Ford discussion board? Thanks in advance

Check the injectors. I had 2 fail on my 04 F350 diesel automatic that were replaced under warranty at the dealership with a $100 deductible for each one.

Get a programmer (Superchips or Hypertech or whatever) to check the fault codes to maybe save some troubleshooting cost.

Will - were they seperate instances? Otherwise, why did they charge you $100 per injector?

ahhhhhh yes the curse of the 4r100, not exactly Ford's crowning moment. Get a BTS if your out of warranty and have to replace it. Also check fluid level, a slight decrease in fluid levels can cause shifting issues.

Thanks for the help. We will see what happens.

Shane: When exactly WAS Ford's Crowning Moment?!!?

Kraig, I would say Ford's crowning moments were the GT-40 and teaming up with Carrol Shelby, nothing lately.

Shane,

An 04 diesel would have the torqueshift.

evil since will has not posted back, typically they are seperate episodes. with the ford extended waranty you have a 100 deductible every time you come in for waranty work past 36k. just got my f350 diesel back yesterday and yes had to pay 100. but i had about 10 different little things taken care of all in one trip so it was 100 for the whole tag. so what i learned was, unless its major problems let it go for a while because you know more stuff will break then hit the dealer up with alot of work under 1 deductible payment. did that make any sence at all?

shawn you are correct, I think the they changed in 03. Torqueshift was/is less problematic than the 4r100.

That's exactly what I was thinking Bryan, I was just hoping the dealer didn't bend him over paying $200 for one trip to the dealer.

yes, two separate instances about two months apart for the injector repair.

I used a Superchips programmer to diagnose the problem myself and saved a lot of cash by taking it to the dealership for a warranty claim instead of the local repair house charging me to diagnose the problem.

This is covered under the 100k power-train warranty that was standard with the 2004 super duty 6.0L diesel engines.
