Boating on Lake Tahoe

Headed down to Lake Tahoe in a week and will be staying near Tahoe City on the North Shore. Anyone have any good recommendations on where to ride or good locations to see? Any info would be great!

Yes, Go to another lake to ride. Tahoe is friggin cold as hell and really rough. Maybe go to Boca to ride if you can. Tahoe City is fun and so is Truckee. Good luck and let us know how it went when you get back.

Ditto on going elsewhere. Tahoe is not a riders lake, yes, occasionally you can get good (not great) conditions. Also, there was a recent article in our local paper that the boat ramps have raised their launch fees from $12-15 to $45-60 per day. I have no idea if this is actually true, it's what was written a few weeks ago.

Early mornings in Crystal bay are amazing. The lake level is down, on the North Shore you'll need to look at the coast guard launch near Tahoe City or on the Nevada Side you'll have to go to Sand Harbor.
The fee increase is due to the gestapo known as the TRPA, while I agree with what they're trying to prevent, making people pay to have their boats inspected is just wrong... http://www.trpa.org/default.aspx?tabindex=1&tabid=351

Yeah, I'll be putting in at Lake Forest near Tahoe City. The launch is maybe going to be $10 a day as I talked to the gal today. It's $30 to get the Mussel inspection on my boat. Whatever. There has to be some bays on there with calm water especially in the mornings and evenings.

If you're on the water by 7 during the week you can get good water. Good luck on the weekend.

I've had very good water during the day, but I will admit it is rare.

Saw on the news today that the Fish and Game is planning to search boats launching into Lake Tahoe. The search is on for the quagga/zebra mussels and cost $60 to perform. Not sure you want to pay for that. :-(

You might want to read the link I posted above... It's 60 for boats over 39' the average wake boat will be 30 + 10 if you have ballast tanks. It's a one time fee if you keep your boat trailered inbetween launches. If you break the seal (like launch at Boca), you have to get it inspected again.

Floating down the Trukee river is a lot of fun. Bring lots of water guns, lots of beer and a good attitude. Also, only do it if the air temps are high (because the water is a bit cold).
