Does such a thing even exist yet? I board in Ontario, Canada and the off-season here is about 7 months. A heated cable park would be a nice way to break up the off-season a little bit. Either way, I doubt there would be one within a day's drive of here.

heated cable park? that would be insanley expesive maybe reserved for the billionair who will build an indoor cableski.

maybe a 2.0 over an indoor swimming pool could be do'able.

look into it there is probably a good market for it.

the silver dome would have been perfect

Yes you are correct, but is cost Pontiac 1.5 mil $/yr to maintain, that's alot of park fees.
Love the idea tho,
If you just kept something wind free and unfrozen, I bet lots would ride in wet/dry suits

There's a really long, old warehouse by my house that is always for sale and I keep thinking about how cool it would be to come up with some kind of cable system mounted to the ceiling and build a long pool down the middle. Air tricks would probably be out, but you could do some nice hits.

that would be pretty sweet David..... you could have some nice rails in there

We need some rich people from Dubai to move to Mi/ Canada and build it. They built indoor snowboarding right?

Kevin, you'll have to look elsewhere. Guess you haven't heard about Dubai's economic troubles.

A heated cable park would be awesome...and sadly, in no way profitable.

I thought about and researched this idea a couple years ago before the System 2.0 and it just wouldn't work. I was looking into those big Gold Domes that are filled with air, are not to expensive and very easy to set up. Now with the System 2.0 and being at Nordic Mt in WI, I think it is very doable. It can be done and it can be probitable because the System 2.0 has and will change things as we know it.

The old walmart in our old town sold for 200k... that was easily big enough for a 3/4 system 2's or one real cable...but what would have made sense (given it wasn't Wisconsin Rapids) a system 2, a large indoor skatepark and whatever else would have been awesome.

There was a resort being built, don't know if it still is going to go up in the Wisconsin Dells but they claimed they would have indoor wakeboarding and all year long snowboarding... but the economy may have killed it.

Wedge resorts or something

Investors are probably stiffened buy this concept during this recession, but I bet with in 5 years you will see one in the USA.

There is an old factory/warehouse by me, that I started to inquire about. But apparently the company that used to be in it has polluted the soil & such, so it sits empty...

One Word:

GEOTHERMAL

You could build a cable park on this lake.

Anyone here ever take a class in economics?

isn't there a lake in IL that a nuclear power plant sits on, so the water around the plant stays like ~80* all year from the cooling discharge they release... just have to close up the air around it and you would be golden... if you're fine with wakeboarding next to a nuclear power plant

The vacated Pontiac Silverdome, the abandoned home of the Detroit Lions just sold for under $600,000. Perfect place for an indoor cable park.

d fresh-as stated in another thread, the maintainance costs are over a million dollars a year on the silverdome. Not practical

As much as I would like to see an indoor wakepark with some jacuzzis, bar, bands, and a lazer disco ball, I have doubts it would be economically feasible for a while, even with geothermal heating which would make it less economically feasible until you hit the break even point many years out. The model would be similar to inddoor skateboard parks and they stay a float but they would probably have more ridership with a lot lower costs than something like this.

Dubai has indoor skiing in the desert, but have you been reading the papers lately????

Just sold for under 600.000 bummer it originally cost 57million to make!
just doing some mesurments on google earth and its to small anyway. if it was stripped out wall to wall maybe yes but just the field no. Its only 2 acres. even that dome would have to be a system 2 playground

Indoor cable park by day
Club or Music Venue by night?? might help offset some of the costs??

Put one in Toronto. There are enough people that wakeboard here that have to go 7 months of the year without boarding. Guaranteed there'd be a huge turnout for that. And like Rob said, if the place was turned into something else during non-riding times, I'm sure it would work. It has to be do-able. Someone with $$$ could do it.
Old     (spearing)      Join Date: Sep 2005       12-08-2009, 4:12 PM Reply
My thought was taking the Pontiac Silver dome which wakeboarding in it self could never support the facility. buuut if you turn the Silver dome into a water world sport resort it would be possible.

1.) Fill half way up the lower bowl with water.
2.) Add beach sand all around for aesthetics.
3.) Cable park in center plenty of room.
4.) Take 2nd and third tier of stands out from end zone to end zone on one side and add a hotel front with rooms facing the water activities.
5.) Under the cable park a scuba divers paradise sink some buses, airplanes, boats... leave the football field goals posts and the lower bleachers for visual.
6.) At one end of the stadium under the tier two areas add a kayaking course ending in the large lake.
7.) bungee jumping sure why not.
8.) Other end of stadium under tier two areas a skate park.
9.) Building extruding into the Dome with a restaurant and multi level bars and clubs again facing the water world.
10.) Host boat shows in the large lake.
11.) Jets ski events
12.) Designated beach and swim areas.
13.) A few flow riders
14.) Water park????? I could think of a few water slides that could be put in.
15.) Entrance areas could be domed off leveled and covered with sand for indoor camping.
16.) Anyone of the outside auxiliary lots could used for motocross and BMX courses to be domed.
17.) Floating concert stage for music venues. You would still have like 60% of the seats available. 52,000 seats and $10.00 a beer whoa.
18.) Add a casino building attached to Dome and mom and dad can gamble while Jr wakeboards and Suzy swims with girl friends :-)

Pretty much wakeboarding would be a side show but it would fit the theme water world and hence the first indoor cable park. Any investors interested?

Jim you aren't the one looking into putting a cable here are you? If you are, I hope your plan for it is more feasible than your silverdome one

And why just not take the plane and go to a place where its summer?

Seriously guys, its a nice dream, but a complete economical madness...

Though it could be built as a level/spot for the next wakeboarding video game... called Vegas Wake Arena with all that casinos and a rock concert in the middle... THAT's possible

^ and hopping on a plane everytime you want to wakeboard is economically sound?

No, Nick, you'll make a trip/vacation for a week or two (or more). THEN get back to work/school/whatever you do...

Yeah right... riding at CWC (for example) in January is awful... Its way more cool to shovel the snow in front of the house... how could one ever think of it?!

There is a lake in Southern Alberta which is used to cool turbines in a Coal plant. I believe the lake is at about 70 all year round. Mind you, I am sure that drops when the air is super cold. It's too bad that our temperature have been at -35 Celsius for the past week.

Red Bull put on a wake event in an underground cave lake here in MO (http://www.broadbandsports.com/node/2706)...caves stay a pretty constant/moderate temp year round.

Pontiac silver dome would be mint, Put a sick cable park down low, put a huge casino in the middle, then have your own radio station with the biggest bar in michigan.

Pretty sure Japan's indoor surf park closed down, Transworld surf did an article a couple years ago saying they were some of the last to use it. Lets just put a cable park on the moon while we are talking about heated cable parks!

Hey TFD I like your idea! A cable park on the moon! Think about the lack of gravity and how much extra hang time you would get. Haha. Sounds like a good way to get a few extra rotations while in the air. Let's call Bill Gates and see if he will sponser it. I'll throw in $20. Anyone else?
